Hey, sorry if this has been done before, the other thread on this was from 05.

Does a Standard work inside a Chimera? The wording says, all units within 12" of the banner get the benefit. Now obviously, the banner is inside a transport but I've seen things that use the armor as an extension of a wargears radius (Kustom Force Field) and things that don't.

What say ye? The wording, coupled with wordings for similar things lead me towards a yes but it never hurts to get backup.

Without the IG Dex in front of me I would say yes it works due to any non-shooting range being taken from the vehicles hull, page 66.

Cheers.

I dont think they do work from inside chimeras. The command vehicle rule alows you to give orders from inside the tank but is doesn't mention standards or commisar lords etc.

Chaos Icons may be similar to the standard but their rules specifically state that an icon inside a rhino can just use the rino as the point to measure from to teleport obliterators from etc. There is no specific statement abour IG standards and if it was intended I would have expected it to be worded in the wargear rules or command vehicle rule.

Codex: Imperial Guard states [page 71] three prerequisites for a unit using the regimental standard to re-roll failed morale and pinning tests: the unit must be a friendly one (in regards to the standard-bearing unit), the standard-bearer must be alive, and the unit must be within 12" of the standard-bearer (or his unit - this isn't stated clearly, unfortunately).

If the standard-bearing unit is in a transport these prerequisites still all apply. The big rulebook says (on page 66) that measuring range in regards to a transported unit is measured from the hull of its transport. So units within 12" of the transport transporting a live, friendly regimental standard bearer can use the standard to re-roll their failed morale and pinning tests.

The answer to the question therefore is: yes, they can!

I'm liking this argument Red Archer but if you follow your reasoning would a comand squad be able to issue orders from inside a vendetta? In which case what is the point of the command vehicle special rule (that the vendetta doesn't have of course).

I shall explain.
First off: some orders require line of sight. This could be coped with by using firepoints, but those aren't available on a vendetta. But, more importantly, Codex: Imperial Guard clearly states that orders must not be issued from inside transport vehicles (page 29), the Chimera is an exception.
