View Full Version : Apocalypse: Disruptor Beacon vs Lesser Daemons

As I have not found anything with search on this topic I hope someone can help me with this.

In apocalypse you can take the Disrutor Beacon strategic asset, or get it through various formations. My question is this:
can lesser daemons be affected by this if they are summoned within range of the beacon?

In the CSM codex it says on p. 61 that "A unit of lesser daemons is deployed in the same way as a unit that arrives from reserves using deep strike rule, and the first model must be placed within 6" of an icon of Chaos. bla bla bla..."

This suggests that they are affected by the disrupror beacon since they sort of deep strike, but I tend to disagree as they are summoned from the warp and not teleporting from an orbiting spaceship like normal deep striking units does. Can they really be placed anywhere on the board if the enemy makes the roll? Seems silly to me since they need to be within range of an Icon to appear at all. Same goes for the Warp Rift formation in the Apocalypse book, where all the greater and lesser daemons must deploy within range of the warp rift marker.

Also, how does this affect formations which has the Strike Force special rule, like the Cult of Destruction? Lets say that half the obliterators in the formation get through and the other half is misplaced by the enemy player making the 4+ roll to disrupt them.

In the new daemon codex, right now all daemons deepstrike in. The Icon just acts as a Locator Beacon. If it's there, they can DS to within 6" without rolling for scatter. If not, then they DS regularly just like anyone else. The Disruptor Beacon can and will affect them as it does all other reserves. It doesn't matter if they're teleporting from a ship or summoned from the warp or just walking in from their board edge...they're still coming in from reserves.

With regards to strike forces, if half of the force lands within DB range, then they get moved per the DB rules. If this puts them out of range from the main command, then the separated units cannot use the formation's special rules until they get back within range.

Moral of the story - destroy that damn Disruptor Beacon as quickly as possible! Any glancing/penetrating hits will do the job.

i think the OP is talking about CSM lesser deamons actually.

as for the iussue in particular, id apply it as Jy2 said, they deep strike in, and the must be within an icon is simply a limitation to deploy.

If you wanted a reson why theyd move, the soceror summoning them gets distrcted and looks the other way?

Yes, I was talking about CSM daemons, but I guess Chaos Daemons Armies have an even harder time in Apoc.

The problem with Disruptor Beacons is that you can hide them under a landing pad or in a building which stops it from beeing targeted by orbital bombardment and most artillery units. So with some clever positioning it's really hard to destroy it. A Hell Talon flyer or something might do the trick but getting true line of sight is hard.
