I have fast and short question.
Are guardians can be used to some effectiveness if they are not sitting in cover behind but walking across behind a wraithlord (thus getting cover)??
Whether they are storm or defenders.

They need to be 50% behind cover to properly receive a cover save so unless you where walking them in a column two maybe three wide behind the Wraithlord and your opponent was shooting from directly in front, probably not.
Behind a squad of Wraithguard, or several Wraithlord, perhaps.
If you had several squads behind each others its possible. Obviously though your giving your opponent a cover save when you receive one (generally)

Wraithlords' legs are a tad on the skinny side for hiding behind. If you want to combo up wraithguard and guardians, I'd suggest throwing a warlock with conceal on the guardians. This gives psyker coverage to the wraithlord, and a cover save to the guardians. The cover save isn't as strong, but it is far more mobile.

As an additional piece of advice:
If you do plan on walking guardians up the field, I would suggest having an Avatar in your list along with the Wraithlords. As long as he is close enough he can make your Guardians fearless. If you keep them spread out enough, and with some kind of cover, it will be difficult for your opponent to remove them as they will never break.
The nice thing here is that, when either in KP or objective missions, your opponent must kill every last model in a unit before it counts for anything. So he will have to expend more firepower and more resources on each unit. I use this a lot in my Iyanden list.

good points. Thanks guys but i guess i should have explained why i am asking in my original post.
I have an army and a list that consists of all the models I have. It doesnt really fit into any category. Kind of a mix.
Right now i am trying to find a use for my guardians which came with the battlebox and I need a 3rd troop choice for my 1500 point list.
I have dire avengers in a serpent and some rangers.
If had points for a 3rd serpent or even had the model i would have made them storm and stick into a serpent.

Ive run this strat many times. Since you can get yourself a Spirit Seer with any squad of Guardians, I like to run a squad of 10 Storm Guards in a bare bones Serpent that keeps pace with the Wraithlord.
It has been very effective for me in the past...
But unless you have 2 or more Wraithlords, there is very little chance of them offering your paltry 5+ save footsloggers any kind of cover save.
Your best bet is to run those Guardians as Defenders and kit them with an EML or something. Cheap and (somewhat) effective. Give em a Warlock with conceal and you have your cover save. They can still run with the Wraithlord and get a cover, along with being able to fire a heavy weapon every turn.

IŽd use them with a HWP to protect my home objecive. Put the PL with antitank weaponry next to them.

I did some calculations and getting a warlock with conceal doesnt give much. Instead I can add about 4-5 more guardians and probably help me more considering i can find some 4+ on the way.
However this came up to my mind. I have 2 wave serpents 1 with banshee 1 with Dire avengers.
Would I get more out of storm guardians with flamers if put them in to the serpent instead of the avengers? I can keep the avengers footsloggin and maybe even make them defensive (SS and defense) they already have a 4+ save as long as there are no low AP weapons. But I would be losing the HWP.
What do you guys think?

Between those two options definately best to foot the guardians with a HWP. The DA can bladestorm with the serpent and your get the anti tank of the guardians. If your not using an avatar a conceal lock would be better then 4 more guardians as at that point you would permanantely retreat at less then 7 vs less then 5.

If you do not have the Avatar in your list, then putting a Warlock with Embolden in your Guradian Defender squads is probably the best bet. Though conceal is nice, you can probably get some 4+ cover saves just by moving through cover or staying behind it. A tad slower but a bit safer.
When your Guardians do start dying off, getting a re-roll on that Ld 8 will be a big help.
