A human doesn't look like that.. normaly atleast. And the head form is all screwd.
A human doesn't look like a compressed rectangle for a face.

They have some good models. Haemonculi are cool, so are the jetbikes and the Radier/Ravager. Most everything else sucks though. The Wyches get my vote.

old plague marines, just look too nice to be nurgle, or ragnar blackmane, coz he's just too, dare I say it, 2D although he was fun to paint I still dont like it, or maybe salamanders chaplain xavier, looks very stupid with his random arm positions

January 29th, 2005, 22:17
Yeah, I have to agree with most of what has already been said:

1. Ork vehicles - Blech! The Orks driving them look like they have down syndrome and were stunted at birth, and the vehicles themselves are so small....Why do you think that most Ork players make their own scratchbuilt vehicles? At least have the trukks able to carry 10 models...

2. Tyranid Tyrant Guard - very un-powerful looking, and along with the Orkoid Biovore, one of the only Tyranid models I can't stand. And what's that all over its body...? Fungus? Dumb...

3. Dark Eldar - Not all of them; I personally think that most of the warriors are cool, with lots of spikes and some great looking rifles...but the ones with those huge fros and mohawk-like hairdos...those have gotta go. Also, the Wyches and Grotesques suck.

Although, I must say that I like all of the Necron miniatures. I don't know why that one poster up above has a beef with the warriors and Tomb Spyders. It sounds like his argument is that they don't rip off the Matrix sentinels and Terminator exoskeletons enough for his liking...hmm...

However, I would also have to say that Daemonhosts, IG Ratling Squads, and most Witch Hunter Inquisitors are also among the worst models.

As for what I think are some of the best, hands down that has gotta be the Daemonhunters Grey Knights Terminator models....they look like the most bad-ass looking tactical unit ever. Also, most of the Eldar Phoenix Lords are awesome, as are the Eldar Rangers.

And finally, I would say the the greatest looking armies all-around with a consistently good miniature lineup would have to be a tie between the Space Marines (booo!) and the Tau. Pretty well every mini in both those armies looks great.

January 30th, 2005, 16:52
Worst model? Pretty much anything with those stupid head things :P You know, they have a thing about giving models ridiculous things on their heads, like the eldar/DE helmets, and the things on the inquisitors and librarians. I hate them. The DESTROY the model. I think most inquisitors look pretty cool, without the things on their heads...
Anything with stupid hair is also crap. DE vehicles...

I do agree with Houston that the Space Marines (YAY!) and Tau both have consistently good miniatures, except for the old Leman Russ model (the primarch, not the tank). I don't see how you could field a character that can quite easily break a Bloodthirster's back over his knee, but I suppose they had their reasons.

ultra-marine termanators. you just look at them and think why...

Houston
January 30th, 2005, 19:48
Malaika, the good news about a model like the DE or the SM Librarians having something on their heads that you don't like is that you could probably do a little trimming with your clippers, than presto, a model that more suits your tastes.

SIDEARM
January 30th, 2005, 20:03
Hes not even out yet but its got to be Captain Shrike, if you havent held this model in your hands then your in for a shock....hes HUGE completely out of proportion with other SM models, hes practically big enough for a smaller Inquisitor model. Also his helmet sucks with the aquila making him look like he has some major nose deformity. Rubbish.

ork vehicles-- NASTY!! horrible!! and the bikes too!!

all DE xept for Incubi, warriors with helmets, and drazhar (droool....)

Jain zar- o my. doesn't this belong in the DE range?

Tau w/o helmets- i have a running 'boogerhead' joke with my friend...

classis gaunts, classic eldar, classic IG-- all so horroble. the new ones are all sweet tho.

houston-- yes. u got it.

the necron miniatures (especially FLAYED ONES!! drooooooooolllllll........... gotta get me some)
are absolutely awesome (except for the lord w/ staff of light.--he looks like he going 'duhhh...'

but Grey Knight Termies are hands down the best models in the range (along with that grot in the eavy metal showcase in the new rule book. the one with a headwrap and 2 revolvers. sweet! i must have it !!!

Tau (BOOO!! ban the rail gun!!) :realmad: when they have helmets and SMs are the best consistantly unless u count GKs as their own army

--- Erm, this is a question of taste and aesthetics... There's no way we can offer any other arguments than our personal opinion that something looks horrible/stupid/silly/ludicrous/etc. ;)

I vote for the Tyranid Tyrant Guard... Compared to the otherwise IMO good-looking 3rdEd Tyranid range, they're just too silly to fit in. I rather convert my own using Warriors.

From other armies, I find it odd no one has mentioned Imperial Guard Ogryns. Another "silly" remnant, these could definitely use a redesign!

All the Catachans (Rambo-wannabes..)

Both Vindicare snipers; both look like queer dancers, not highly stealthed snipers...

Gerbera345
January 31st, 2005, 05:35
The Catachans resemble an entire army of Rambo and Arnold, although in one or two small squads it's kind of cool but when the whole army looks like that it's strange. It's like the whole army should just stand there yelling lines from Rambo and Predator.

The Dark Eldar have some of the goofiest models out there, bike riders with no pants, some people look like they took a brick to the head, and the goofy hair doesn't help.

The old Tyranid models are 'interesting' to say the least, the Tyrant is holding a sword and looks like a Care Bear exploded next to it's so colorful, the Biovore is just confusing and the Carnifex makes the new 'Mr. Smiley' look like a masterpiece by Da Vinci. But about the weirdest is the old Lictor, it looks like it will explode at a moments notice. Although the new Tyrant Guard is messed up, he's covered in what appears to be mold and he's about as fearsome looking as a Down Syndrome kid with a nerf ball.

But for the ugliest of all I have to say the Imperial Guard Cook takes the prize, nothing is weirder and uglier than that chunky little man with his pistol and spoon.

I dislike nearly all of the older GW range, its no always ugly but they look so static.

One of the worst would have to be the Striking Scorpion Exarch with both arms in the air. Its the one that was out before they released the new striking scorpions.

I have a new favourite model though, the ninja gnoblar on this ogre.

I'd say 80% of the Dark Eldar range. Escpecialy the male Archon (what the hell is up with that skin-mask?) and the Hellions ( "Neheheh..I'll get you Batman! You can't outrun my skyboard!"). Those are just plain horrible! I really don't like Eldar helmets as a whole (DE included). Why are they so tall, what do they keep in all that extra helmet space? Thier lunches maybe?

Personally I think it's the Vindcator (http://uk.games-workshop.com/spacemarines/miniature-gallery/31/). Still stuck on the old style Rhino body even though the new Rhino has been out ages. This is supposed to be one of the most devastating tanks in 40k but just look at it!!! Compare it to the Forgeworld (http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/vindicator.htm) model and it's plain awful.

A Close runner up has to be the Ragnar Blackmane (http://uk.games-workshop.com/spacemarines/space-wolves-gallery/15/) model. The way his upper arms are tucked against his body and yet his forearms are 90 degrees to the side is an incredibly uncomfortable and unnatural pose.

no the reason i dont like them is because they are ugly models and blatantly ripped off from matix and terminator (and for those who say what else could they look like there are other ways of making a skeletal robot, static X managed it)
im sorry if i offended thee oh almighty necron lover but i think the models are terrible, on the other hand the pariah and wraiths i think are nice models. we all have models we dont like and those are the opinons were voicing not other peoples taste in miniatures

also the new magnus calgar looks pretty awful with his arms tucked into his sides and his hands pointing outward

Well I've got a few here that deserve a bit of ridicule:

1. Any female model. They are all terrible, without exception. Admittedly they are slowly getting more feminine, but Kruellagh the Vile (who someone mentioned earlier) is just the latest exhibit in the chain of evidence I am gathering to prove that there are no women in 40k; Only men and trans-sexuals. They are only OK when you can't see their faces...

2. The Last Chancers look like a gaggle of buffoons.

3. The Rough Riders would be OK if their hats weren't frickin huge.

4. Ratlings. Put some boots on for christ-sakes. Just coz you grew up on a low (or is it high?) gravity world doesn't mean you shouldn't shave your feet.

5. Most Dark Eldar and Harlequins look like leering 80's cock rockers.

I could go on...

Mikhail The Heretic

Yeah OK I grudgingly admit some are OK. But the vast majority are rubbish compared to most of Reaper's female miniatures, or the Warmachine models.

I don't know why they can't do them very well. Other company's sculptors seem to be able to do it.

Yeah I know the guy you mean with the Jabba the Hutt skiff thing. His slave girls are pretty well done.

But I've said it before and I'll say it again: All the Sisters of Battle look like Freddy Mercury.

Hey, I have one of them, and I actually prefer it to the new one. And if you thought that one was bad, you ain't seen the really, really, old Land Speeder model. It had no front part - the crew were completely exposed to any incoming fire... admittedly they were wearing power armour.

As far as classic models go, the old version of Guard Sentinels were terrible (to be fair, alot of the old models were pretty terrible).

In the current range, it is either the Leman Russ or Monolith. The Russ looks like some sort of silly dollar store toy made with big parts so little kids can't choke on it, and the Monolith is just plain stupid (although I imagine DE wyches live in constant fear of the necron house falling out of the sky and killing them).

February 9th, 2005, 23:47
As a die-hard Tau player, I don't lilke saying this, but the Crisis and Broadside battlesuits are a bit on the ugly side. Not totally ugly, I just have two problems with them:

1) The backpacks-they're HUGE! On the Broadside, I can justify them-they mount those wonderfull big-ass railguns. But they're ugly on the Crisis.

2) The lower legs. SO tiny and fragile! They're ugly, and they break a lot!

Most Dark Eldar models are fine except wyches and warp beasts. Their vehicles rock, I love them. Absdrubeal Verct's raider is one of gW's best models.

Uh, well i have a few that I really dont like:

1. Space Marine Terminators.
Well, not exactly the worst models in the world, but you just have to compare them to Grey Knights Terminators. They are so static, and small. Hopefully they will soon be fixed to coincide with the new Codex release.

2.Ork Vehicles
Don't really fit with the Ork way. Should be big and loud, with loadsa exahsts! :P

3.Witch Hunter Retinue
Just not great models, unlike most of the 40K world. They dont hit me with that 'wow' factor.

4.Throne of Judgement
Whats with the position of the sword? And the whole idea of an Inquisitor riding a Dreadnaught is just wierd...

5.Celestine The Living Saint
Good model, but the face is just dodgy, which is a shame.

I would say that the army with the best miniatures would have to be Tau. I love the miniatures. The Grey Knights are also really beautiful models.
