View Full Version : War Of The Ring strewart February 8th, 2005, 09:20 It seems the next online campaign is actually going to be a LOTR one. I haven't seen a thread around on it so sorry if it is old news, but it looks to me like they are preparing for the next online campaign to be LOTR rather than fantasy or 40k.
Here (http://thewarofthering.uk.games-workshop.com/default.htm) is the link to it. You can't register until May and it is this year. I bet it will end up much smaller than any of the other campaigns... Colonel_Kraken February 8th, 2005, 12:02 Smaller yes, but probably much more fun and much more fair than any of the other online campagins, especially since we all know how it ends ^_^
I'm tempted to start a hobbit battle company actually... strewart February 8th, 2005, 12:20 How is it more fair if we know the outcome from the start? It wouldn't even be worth doing, it would simply be watching events unfold while battles you posted had absolutely no effect on anything. Kind of like SoC. :P
I think that is a factor that makes it not work, with warhammer systems anything can happen because the story isn't written yet. With this, the story is already written so only one thing can happen. Revenant February 8th, 2005, 14:56 There are going to be three smaller campaigns, one for each game. War Of The Ring, Lustria and Ultramar. 1st of the Thousand Sons February 8th, 2005, 20:18 Whats an online campaign? Is this something different from the summer campaign? Sorry if this sounds like a NooB question I just don't know what you're refering to. Gathrog February 8th, 2005, 23:22 wow im soo excited.......... :glare: i hope it ends soon so those lazy arses at GW and devote more attention to getting the revised 40k codexes out. Edicius February 8th, 2005, 23:47 Like we didn't see this comming? "Quick, sales are dropping, let's do something to get people interested in LotR again! We're loseing money!" I think it's a bit rich to say that the other campaigns aren't scripted. GW can't risk having campaigns go in any but a few carefully chosen directions, so the only difference here is that we /know/ the final outcome.
Dan WiCkEdRock February 9th, 2005, 11:50 Maybe they changed the end, youknow, just for fun? :P
Naw.
Well, this campaign will be even more predictable then all the others. Maybe get Tolkiens grandson to write fluff? Beats Gav ;) Colonel_Kraken February 9th, 2005, 11:52 Well wicked, the story lies hidden in the name. The campaign actually reflects the war of the ring. There will be special scenarios as the fellowship progresses, special events concerning the great battles etc.
The story is given, you just get to be part of it.
-hobbits! strewart February 9th, 2005, 11:53 Yeah I know they all are, but they can at least make the illusion that people are effecting things and the outcome is not known whether its scripted or not. With LOTR we all know what will happen...

That would be good, i know of Lustria but I don't know if it is an online campaign or not... King Ulrik Flamebeard February 9th, 2005, 18:28 Lustria is a summer campaign, nothing like SoC or Albion but will be part of the summer line up. This is stated in WD 302 (UK), so there'll be something around.
KU Sparky February 10th, 2005, 16:54 ohhhh, i am so excited
