Any way to make it liquid again? SimulatedSnowman September 8th, 2005, 23:18 Cry, and then put your tears in the paint pot and stir. I think you're pretty much out of luck dude devrok September 8th, 2005, 23:21 Paint unfortunatly isnt made to be able to rehydrate so that you can reuse it. Wouldnt be very fun if it did, imagine when you would pick your models up. Gonna have to bite the bullet, and get a new batch of the stuff. Sir Theobold the Lame September 8th, 2005, 23:38 i recently found a pot of enchanted blue was on its way out after i didnt put the lid on properly a few weeks earlier (damn screw top lids)- i managed to make it just about usable with some washing up liquid and water- however if its totally dried up i think its a no go im afraid IGAirborneRanger September 8th, 2005, 23:43 Actually I forgot to mention that it was also very moist as well as crusty. So does that give me a better chance of saving it? If not, any tips on turning a fresh bottle of Chainmail into boltgun metal? The Fifth Horseman September 9th, 2005, 16:56 Try adding some solvent, like those used to remove paint, and water. The solvent should be used _very_ carefully, though, or you'll ruin the paint totally. I don't give any guarantee that this will work, but if you are desperate... Mikhail The Heretic September 9th, 2005, 17:04 It's just £1.75 for a pot of paint i suggest that you buy a new one. Gojiratoho September 9th, 2005, 17:13 Except Boltgun Metal is an out of print color. Water sometimes works. Add a drop or two and work it around the pot with a toothpick or the end of a paintbrush. Paint thinner can also be used for this. Just keep mixing and adding thinner/water until you get the consistancy you want. This mix will not be the same consistancy of your other paints. You'll get airbubbles and some lumps depending on how you mixed it. It will also not last. Even if you seal the lid as tightly as possible, the paint will dry out again, and much quicker than before. The more times you do this, the more unusable this paint will become. I've been able to bring back paint that was nothing more than a solid rock at the bottom of the pot, but not for very long. If you get the Boltgun back to some state of usefulness, you'll want to buy some Chainmail and work with mixes so you can get close to the Boltgun color again. pro_necron September 9th, 2005, 17:32 Ive just been on the uk online store and boltgun metal is not an out of print colour. Ive got it in the new flip-top paint pots. Sir Theobold the Lame September 9th, 2005, 17:36 Ive just been on the uk online store and boltgun metal is not an out of print colour. Ive got it in the new flip-top paint pots. i bought some a month or so ago from the uk online store... Gojiratoho September 9th, 2005, 17:43 Hunh, it's listed on the US site as well, but my store hasn't had any in....a while. I'll have to have a-talkin' to my local games store. In that case IGAirborneRanger, yeah, drop the ducats and get yourself a new pot. Force Commander Xiaver September 9th, 2005, 18:04 that's a shame, new paints cost soooooooo much. WHY IS EVERY THING SO EXPENSIVE!! :o ! Obsidian September 9th, 2005, 18:10 mix a little of chaos black with mithril silver, i have used this before as boltgun metal IGAirborneRanger September 9th, 2005, 22:18 Well I seem to be having some luck mixing some chainmail with some chaos black. Thanx for all your tips guys. gundamfan September 10th, 2005, 18:44 Ah I see you're very thrifty eh? bonjordo September 11th, 2005, 11:46 Cry, and then put your tears in the paint pot and stir. LOL just buy a new one Wookie September 12th, 2005, 07:20 Do the following: - Add a smidgen of boiling water and a some clear acrylic floor wax. The acrylic floor wax actually "breaks down" the paint to a degree to form a solution (makes a fairly decent wash if you use too much floor wax.) - Get a suitable stirring device (I use wood kebab skewers myself) and stir like crazy NOTE: Don't use so much hot water & floor wax that you end up with a silvery colored soup...Just enough so the paint is wet enough for you to get it stirring nicley. If that doesn't do it then you'll just have to be brave and declare your paint pot dead and give it a proper burial. Sincerely, The Wookie Zanzibar September 12th, 2005, 07:50 Why GW would discontinue a (seemingly) very popular color is beyond me. This isn't any help but my store still sells it :) . Grand Master Overcannon September 12th, 2005, 13:57 I'm just going to recomend valejo paints. Those are very good. illovich September 12th, 2005, 15:00 Boltgun Metal at U.S. online store (http://store.us.games-workshop.com/storefront/store.us?do=List_Models&code=304361&orignav=304328&ParentID=251282&GameNav=300810) ...so I guess nothing to worry about, it's still in print ^_^ Gojiratoho September 12th, 2005, 15:13 That "out of print" thing was my fault. My store hasn't had any in stock since the new GW pots came out. There were a few colors that were renamed or dropped at that time, and I thought BoltGun was one of them. Sorry about that, my bad. BLADERUNNER September 14th, 2005, 11:03 There is a way to keep your paints hydrated and its pretty simple. NEVER EVER EVER let your paints dry out. Just take an eye dropper and add 1.4 of the amount of water which would just make it a perfect texture for you. Commissar September 18th, 2005, 21:34 Im not sure baout this never having tired it myself but try adding water and heating up untill it boils im not sure how you would go about doing that or the outcome but it might be intersesting Vindkall September 18th, 2005, 22:38 Actually, there's one thing that GW should put in their line of paints as they are well known to dry fast. And that's a retarder for acrylic paint. Anyhow as I am a nice guy, here's a link (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=acrylic+paint+retarder&btnG=Google+Search) to google with a search for retarders. Good thing to use, and don't make fun of what it's called :p ph34r September 19th, 2005, 03:05 Just buy the Vallejo equivilant. Vallejo is better, cheaper, and contains slightly more, anyway. |
