Librarian Augustine is correct. You do have enough rep points to give out rep yourself, so simply click the yellow star in the lower left corner of every post and write a reason for your giving out rep in the pop-up window; most members appreciate knowing what you like about their post. Then click the ‘Add to reputation’ button, and voila. :)

Ok now I'm confused.

You say we can add rep if we have 11 point of reputation or more, yet the forum rules say you get...
+ 1 for every 365 days
+1 for every 250 posts
+1 for every 100 reputation

Do you also get +1 for having over 10 reputation?

Do you also get +1 for having over 10 reputation?I understand your confusion. ;) But it really is quite simple. The more experience and seniority you have, the more important does your opinion and thereby repping become. When you first join, you have 10 rep points yourself and no rep power. As soon as you get more than 10 rep points, meaning that someone else repped you for writing a good post, you get 1 rep power. After passing 10 rep points, your rep power increases only as you reach the different stages that you wrote above. If you ever get less than 10 rep points, regardless of your seniority, you will lose the ability to rep others again.

An example:

You now have more than 10 rep points, so you have 1 rep power.
Then you write 250 posts and get another rep power, making it 2.
Then people like your posts so much that they rep you, giving you more than 100 rep points yourself, and you get another rep power, making it 3.
Then you stick around for a year, and you’ll have 4.
And so on.

Your amount of rep power of course determines how much rep you can give to others. A rep power of 1 gives 1 rep point, a rep power of 2 gives 2 rep points, and so on. To my knowledge, there isn’t a limit on the amount of rep powers you can get, at least not one any of us are going to reach anytime soon.

Hope that cleared up your confused! Please feel free to ask if it did not.

Grephaun's got it all right. However, I think what confuses people is distinguishing between reputation points and reputation power. I should have included this in the article .

Reputation points measure how much reputation you have recieved from other members. You can see your reputation points by either clicking on your own little yellow star or viewing the "Current Reputation" window thing in your User CP. Now, when you first sign up you have 10 rep. points (and no rep. power, but ignore that for a minute). At 10 reputation points you are considered neutral and cannot give rep. to others (you have no rep. power). As soon as someone gives you reputation for a post you've made, even if it is only one point, it will push your rep. points to more than 10, giving you +1 rep. power.

Reputation power is how much reputation you give to others. You cannot see how much power you have, but it isn't difficult to find out (Xiahou, those three criteria you stated show how your power increases, and you can use them to find out your current power). Grephaun's example fills in the rest. Just note that when you rep. someone, you add your rep. power to their rep. points (so a rep. power of +4 gives 4 rep. points). Also, when you give negative rep. (which should always be fairly justified, please ensure that you include a comment with it), you subtract half of your rep. power from the recipient's rep. points.

Hope I didn't complicate things :).

I get the power/points thing but what i want to know is how many points above ten you have to be to get another star. I want another BADLY :cry:You start out with one star to indicate that you have more than 0 rep points (if you have less than zero, you’ll have a flame instead), and then you get another star for each 100 rep points you get. So someone with 2 stars has +100 rep points, someone with 3 stars has +200 rep points, and so on.

Mind you, the stars don’t do anything per se, other than look pretty. ;) When you reach +100 rep points, +250 posts or +60 days of membership, you can become an Enhanced Member and gain access to the special Enhanced Members forum, but apart from that reputation doesn’t really serve other purposes than as a way to let people know when they’ve written a good post. Don’t worry about getting another star, you’ll get there soon enough with a bit of effort and patience.

Greph i thought that you had to meet all three of those criteria to become an enhanced member, the only reason that i ask is that currently i meet 2 of the three conditions (my rep being below 250 is the only one that i don't).

As far as I can see, you should be guaranteed Enhanced Membership as soon as you get those +100 rep points. :)

Speaking of enhanced thingies Greph. I recently passed the 100rep point. Any chance of getting an enhanced bar to go with my subscribers one?Of course. I don’t see why not. Unfortunately, I can’t add you to another user group myself, but I’ll get a Supervisor on it right away. :)

Edit: And there you go. ;)
