http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g319/bertisa/Space%20wolves/vanalles/WolflordGowron.jpg minus_t August 8th, 2006, 12:08 I'm voting for Krakgrenade, partly because gareth is (almost certainly) going to win, and partly because I decied that I would use creativity as the most important area to judge on.
With that in mind, I think Krakgrenade's use of a subdued, almost pastel colour scheme is something that I have genuinely never seen before (except for these very models when he posted them up a little while back  ).
All the entries seem well painted, with gareth and krakgrenade standing out for me, and Bert coming in third.
Nice work guys, good to see some more competitions going on
-t. Krakgrenade August 8th, 2006, 15:39 Im chuffed guys! Plenty of effort has gone into my new Wolves having had an old army for a long time that just looked rather dated and poorly painted.
My vote has gone to the mighty G man, who has inspired my latest Wolf incarnation and provided much needed inspiration.
However anyone who paints wolves well as have all the other entries here deserve much credit! Gareth August 8th, 2006, 16:40 Well I think minus t you should have voted for KG becasue its an awesome model not because you expect me to win. Wrong reasons mate. Shame...
I voted for KG because i love the soft feel the armour has. Plus its the wolf lord i'll be fighting under at AoA Campaign weekend. Not sure about the lightening claws though, would have preferred a wacking great big axe or hammer.
Good work on all the entries, really hard picking my favourite. max_dammit August 8th, 2006, 20:33 I wont be getting any votes with this stiff competition
hope i get as good as you
ps why did you put up the leftside 2X???

http://members.home.nl/maxdammit/40k/Razor/Backpack.jpg minus_t August 8th, 2006, 21:18 Obviously I miscommunicated, starting with the wrong statement.
KG's model is utterly gorgeous, and it is for that reason I voted for him, and I love it, as I said, and as I said in the post KG put up before
-t. King Ulrik Flamebeard August 8th, 2006, 21:44 I voted for Gareth. Now, the reason is not because I sort of know him but because to me it looks like the better painting, themed and converted of them all. But for fairness..

I had to check to see if these were space wolf, to me they look rather blue in colour. Granted no one said they have to be space wolf grey [/blue  ] but they look too blue for my tastes. Most the minis, from what I can tell, look good but some parts could be much better - faces for one; look rather bland. A few highlights and some shading and you have been sorted.
Oh but for the love of the Ancestors.. GREEN BASES!!! Nooo!!! Inquistion!!!
Gareth
Well.. these screams viking in space to me. All he needs is a big barrel of ale, a horned helmet and a longboat ;) The stone looking hammer is very well executed and the pose is good too, the few touches like the shield just tie him into the Nordic look very well. That being said.. base could have been looked at better.
Helbrecht
Not bad, though to me there are a few things that stand out; the blue looks quite out of place - sort of over powering the grey. I would have made it darker or less of it, the red works quite well though. But I'm afraid the grey of the armour, the swords and base is plain and bland - Shading and highlighting would work wonders here. Same goes for the faces, they look like a basecoat that has been inked only - even a solitry highlight would have done wonders. The lightning effect on the claws are ok but I find hard to pull off properly - it only really shows on the flat sides. Personally I would have left it off.
Krakgrenade
Nice work, the grey is more or less exactly what is expected. Though I do find the black as too harsh a darkline, I would have gone for a darker grey/blue personally. The yellow looks good if a little thick to my eyes - on the shoulder pad edge which I can see. Again a few areas could do with some better shading and highlighting, namely the hair, chest eagle and wolf pelt. But overall a nice solid piece, more than adequete for gaming standard - and I like the base, stands out nicely.
Wolf Guard Berts
To me it looks overall.. bland. The grey is again too bluey for my tastes and whilst it looks pretty good and smooth, it also looks like it is lacking badly in the highlights and shading area - that shinguard screams to have something done to it. The base, from what I can see from this angle, looks good it does look rather full and the red seems to fight the grey [and the focus on the terminator] for the views eye and attention. The face looks good, though the hair - along with the storm bolter - looks rather pastel and drybrushed. However, the sword effect and the rocks look pretty good.
Well done to you all for entering, these are my honest comments if anything upsets you well I am sorry but this is how it is. Good luck with the rest of your forces!!

Yeah i should have mixed my shadowgray with some spacewolf gray, but hey, it's my first army and ill have to redo them someday  Helbrecht August 9th, 2006, 01:54 ps why did you put up the leftside 2X???
Fixed it! Krakgrenade August 9th, 2006, 12:28 Believe it or not, mine isnt blacklined with black!
Its quite badly lit camera work actually and the Wolf Grey is I think almost as light as Gareths! He just has the magic of a good camera and lighting and graphic design tools to take those good piccies.
the eagle is a let down I admit it. I have since retouched it with a shade and highlight so its more prominent.
Here are the rest of the unit though...

The Pod isnt quite finished. Far too clean still, so needs the obligatory dirtying up to appear as if it has been blasted down to a planet from a ship. Wulfbanes August 9th, 2006, 14:33 For me it's Helbrecht.
Why? I am in love with the first model.
Second place for me is a shared one of Krakgrenade and Gareth. I like KG armor, but not the face. For Gareth I like the face and the feel more, but find the position a bit akward. Araith August 11th, 2006, 05:35 Hard choice...
max_dammnit, though I'm not overtly fond of your colours they do make for a very 'intense' result. Some (subtle) highlights would probably improve the look.
The wolf helmet is great though.
Gareth, this is the best model of all those you've shown in the Clan forum. Fantastic details and highlights.
Helbrecht, the chaotic look I think you want to achieve with all the red and blue armour would be improved with shading and highlights. And brushing... I love brushing.
On the other hand, those faces are great and unique!
KG, it could be the photo but the model looks a bit blotchy. Together with his pack he looks better. Good basing.
WG Berts, the thing that really strikes me are the details.
The rest of the model though could use some shading.
So ... WG Berts for the fine details and the base or Gareth for the overal great painting quality. As for the pose, Gareth's might be more dynamic, WG Bert's model has all it needs in that respect as a terminator slowly but relentlessly trudging over a mass of foes.
In the end I've cast my vote for Gareth.
Tai'shar Gareth August 25th, 2006, 13:17 WOOHOO I won!!!!
Well done to everyone who participated. And a big thank you for everyone who voted for me. Many thx. Helbrecht August 25th, 2006, 17:11 Congratulations Gareth!
