i was just wondering: is it possible to use your own created space marine chapters in tournaments? Ones with all the traits and drawbacks explained in the Space marine codex.

that mostly depends on the tournamentstaff of you can use certaint things like chapter traids or white dwarf chapters, legion of the damned and so on

if oyour army is legal withing the rules and boundries of the space marine codex then yes. unless you have some a_ _ hole tournament staff.

I'm pretty sure you can use traits chapters in tournaments, but as other posters have said, it probably depends on the tournament. The thing is, the traits are in the official codex, so they are part of the official rules. I don't think you'd have a problem.

Now, I have a question that goes one step further: does anyone know if tournaments allow you to use sub-chapter rules for your own chapter? Eg. Could I make a chapter that uses Black Templar rules (geared for assault, 20-man Initiate and Neophyte teams, etc.), without having them painted like or called Black Templars?

you would probably need to ask the tournament staff about those things as it varies alot in my experience
