View Full Version : Did we get hacked? [Black] Katalyst September 5th, 2006, 05:24 XXX
When I go to the LO home page, thats what the pages says.
Is it the site or just my laptop?
Edit: details removed by mods, not that everyone cant see them, but we dont particularly want people wandering down the links Master of Sanctity September 5th, 2006, 05:30 It's the site I believe because I got it and so did a few of my friends. Hard A** September 5th, 2006, 05:56 We are looking into it... nekochen September 5th, 2006, 06:07 Wow that's some skill..
Lucky I have the forum bookmarked as well :D GunTAG September 5th, 2006, 06:45 Heheh... That's kinda silly. xD mpdscott September 5th, 2006, 07:34 I really wish I could figure out what the thrill in hacking a site was.
"ooooh, lookit me, I can make a site do something pointless.....aren't I clever?"
it must take an inordinate amount of brains to find that fun.......and yes, I do mean brains in the zombie sense :shifty: Uriel Zarium September 5th, 2006, 08:08 Apparently one group of nerds couldn't quite handle another group of nerds.

Ah well, shouldn't take too long to replace the hacked crap with what was there before. The front page stuff is backed up somewhere isn't it?!... Hard A** September 5th, 2006, 12:43 Remember guys, don't make it personal. The less fuss you make the sooner they will go away. Also, if you join up for anything, do NOT use the same password as your LO one. LOL. For which we are eternally thankful. Well these things happen
As long as they don't take those firewalls as a challenge to their nefarious skills we should be fine. ;) Zero Blizzard September 5th, 2006, 14:19 My godness gracious... Those guys are idiots. I went on their site, and it's a forum for hate mail. Who would want to host that?

LMAO, they cant get any attention by being nice, so they have to be annoying instead. proves that theyre just sad nerds with what sounds like aspergos syndrome.
I wonder if any one has hacked them, perhaps a rival site?that would be funny Cheredanine September 5th, 2006, 14:55 We appear to have been hit again, please do not follow the links as it may result in you giving your password away (do you use the same password for LO as other systems???? want to risk them????), the admins are dealing with both the front page and the Articles, bear with us
Chered Lord Yossanrion September 5th, 2006, 15:02 [Notice from Moderators]
Hey guys, we apologise for the past few hours, we're doing the best we can to resolve the situation.
There are several things you can do to help:
1) Do not follow the links on the front page, as it has been hacked.
Don't make it personal. The less fuss you make the sooner they will go away. Also, if you join up for anything (espeically the hacker's site), do NOT use the same password as your LO one.
2) Do not PM the moderators or Admins, or start threads about Hacking, we know about it, and are doing our best to fix it :)
3) If you have something that could help us, feel free to PM it to a moderator, or an Admin, senitments are nice, but at the moment just solid stuff :)
4) Stay calm, and don't worry. LO will be back in no time. The best way to fight these guys is to ignore them, and not to respond at all.
5)If you suspect anything, report it immiediatly (that is threads, or members or might be linked to the hacking) to the moderators or Admins, where we will deal with it, no Lynch Mobs, ok? If you inform, we'll deal with it. :)
6)Keep being the patient bunch you are. :)
Thanks guys, and remember "Love and Peace!"
~Yos Zero Blizzard September 5th, 2006, 15:08 Great advice.
Hunker down and shut up men! magnet_man September 5th, 2006, 16:21 My friends in the IT department at the university call the people who do this "script kiddies". We've busted a few by tracing IP logs (it's amazing how much trouble a teenager can get in when they've hacked a public institution's website). Generally it's young high schoolers who don't really know much about hacking, they just read a website that says
1) Downlaod this
2) Run this on this IP range
3) Check your results.
The actual hackers wouldn't care about the LO. They would go after a site that would procure money or information, not inconvenience a bunch of nerds.
Good thing I bookmarked a thread in the forum though. LictorInTheGrass September 5th, 2006, 16:38 This is another level of being pathetic, brought to you by computer nerds. Cheredanine September 5th, 2006, 16:49 For the record folks, the hacks are not automated, ignoring the front page and the Aricles, the hacks within posts have been dissabled by the admins applying security which stops automatic redirects but will still leave a link, the purpose of the hacks appears to be to have someoe follow a link. once at the destination (web page) you are at a point where you can join a real or ficticious forum. Gues what? most people actually use the same logon id and password or will happily enter email addresses etc and personnal details - you just gave away a lot of personnal info as well as technical info like your IP address.
several if not all of the hacks appear to be by the same person and are done manually, including manually editing stuff after the security stops part of it, so sooner or later they will get bored. The best thing you can do is report the posts and ignore the links Carot September 5th, 2006, 16:54 Morons like this are the reason the net continues to have new laws passed regarding restrictions. I can't stand that kind of irresponsibility.
:ninja: The Greenskin September 5th, 2006, 19:34 People, they are probably reading what we write. Imagine a bullied twelve-year old that sits lonely in his basement. He spends a lot of time on this useless "project" and just manage to squeeze in a couple of meaningless words on a websites front page. The little brat does it because of the attention, since he does not have any friends or anyone who care about him.( And I dont blame them!) And he gets the small amount of happiness by reading our posts about how annoying this is. Dr. Paris September 5th, 2006, 19:42 For the LO Boyz,

hope that helps Babel_Matrix September 5th, 2006, 21:40 *bows to Pookie* Very nice.
It's a bit late, (I didn't report my finding of this hack because I figured my linkage was typed incorrectly,) but when I looked back at a really old post, (we're talking years,) and followed a link to another post within that one, I got the "hacked" message. Finding this on a post, albeit ancient, may mean there's a bit more of a problem... I really don't know, as I'm a novice at best with HTML/XML/whatever-ML. Unfortunately, I deleted the link thinking nothing of it, since it had offensive material and I didn't want to get banned for having that lying around. Doomthought September 5th, 2006, 22:20 What immature ***holes. Really, if you had anything else to do with your life, your you spend it typing immature messages on a widley used message board just to geat attection? I sense a no-life. It smells like dead fish.
-Doom Babel_Matrix September 5th, 2006, 23:19 I beg you to erase their website and I beg all others to delete any references to that wretched website. The last thing we need is their pathetic marketing campaign to actually work on some misbegotten reader. Hard A** September 5th, 2006, 23:46 Any LO member who encourages them or provokes them with insults, may have their LO account deleted at the descretion of the Mods.
Apart from anything else, anyone who visits their forum, and decides to join up MAY use the same password as they use on LO or several other forums. And it seems one of the tactics they use is to farm passwords from people who have joined just after a new assault has started, and they try that password on a load of other sites, with an intent to cause mischief. So basically, if you join there, its at your own risk. ~Cal Purifico September 8th, 2006, 00:55 I hadn't been on Librarium for quite a while. As you could imagine I was a little bit worried by the fact it had been hacked.
Yet apart from the obvious I'd just like to say how impressed I am by the admin in the sensible way they are handling the situation. It's good to see that members and admin alike are showing thier concern and doing thier best to help. Since joining this site earlier this year I have found the members and admin very helpfull and friendly, as well as the site being packed with usefull advice and information. If you prefer to stay, though, I would ask you to please heed the forum's rule on no discussion of real-life politics, and furthermore try to be just a tad more polite towards the people who spend their own time making this forum work for the sake of the members - we aren't asking you to pay anything for the use of this forum except a bit of respect to the administrative team, and frankly that's not an unreasonable price considering the time and effort we give in return. :glare:
Yes, we're suffering a minor setback right now, and yes, we apologise for the inconvenience, but we are trying to fix the problem and at the cost of our own time and frequently any chance of a good night’s sleep too – would a bit of patience and understanding really kill you?

The only thing the Admins should recognize is that your posts aren't helping the situation. If you're posting such meaningless garbble that pulls them away from their work, you're only hurting the forum. StevenSane September 8th, 2006, 18:14 Some people really have too much time on their hands :)

No, in fact what happened was that Blackhat returned to save the day – with ftp access to the forum he simply re-uploaded the front page and articles section, and from what I understand it should all be working again now. If you spot any bugs, though, please let us know.
Also, we’ve updated the forum to the newest version to prevent similar hackings in the future.

The moral of this story is if you're going to commit a crime make a profit out of it. Don't just pointlessly piss people off.
Good to see everyone back. :)
PS: silentdeathz, if you take the time to look at when this thread was started you will see that it was back when no-one knew what was happening. After LO went down we realised it was a hack after all. I can't find the gallery either and in the past few days I have made five posts and then been asked to log in when I am logged in. The result is my posts are deleted, quite annoying. Does anyone have info on this or is it just a glitch that will shortly clear up. BLADERUNNER October 4th, 2006, 00:36 it seemed like LO went offline due to the LAD event and looks like you guys lost front page and log in page. is due to the hacking or was it a total revision of the website? There has been an update, and the admins are working on getting LO back up and running 100%. The Toon October 4th, 2006, 03:47 Well since I don't want anymore did we get hacked posts.
Is this just something that needs to still be fixed because I am being pacient I know how hard it is getting hacked.
Ok is this just my computer or can we not fix our sigs.
PS. Admins I love that you guys are trying your hardest.
And for you nemesis thanks for keeping people in order.
Lost Nemesis ps. you keep racking up for telling people saying same thing over and over again. LOL Lost Nemesis October 4th, 2006, 03:49 I am telling people the same thing over and over again because they won't listen to me. ;)
The signature issue, and all issues about profile-related things, has been addressed in the "LO Fixed" thread, and Blackhat has asked that you post bugs, etc. relating to this most recent update in that thread. The Toon October 4th, 2006, 05:28 My problems are
1. cant rep people
2. keeps signign me out.
3. cant sign in on home page.
I assume only mods can answer this. Caluin October 4th, 2006, 05:50 Honestly, I see no reason to even keep this thread open. All bug reports should be posted in the "LO Fixed" thread anyways, so this thread is superflous, which is why I'll be locking it now. | |
