View Full Version : Skimmers - bane of Kroot?

Specifically Dark Eldar Ravagers. They wreck me every game I play against them (don't have my army finished yet, just playtesting). I haven't been able to find a way to counter these yet, and every method I've tried is either costly and innefeicient, devoting a very large portion of my force to anti-tank (and light anti-tank at that!). A couple things I've tried:

3 Large Krootx Herds - They managged to take out one of the three, and them poof, Desintegraters make them go bye-bye. I tell ya, insta-killing blast templates (3 of 'em per skimmer!) I really can't deal with.

Giving my shapers Eviscerators and Blood fo the Stalker, trying to own them in CC. Problem is the limited attacks and only hitting on 6's.

I haven't tried the large Melta-council thing yet, but I'm guessing it would justy have the same effect as the Krootox.

Is there any way I might rid myself of these freaking death-machines!?

That is a toughie. With not multi-shot guns and 6's to hit in assault, the best bet is to avoid it by staying in combat. Get as many kindreds in an assault and stuck in assault and the Ravager cannot touch you. Rapid-firing kroot rifles could also do the trick, if in enough number.

Keep in mind that if the DE player realises that you can't really hurt his Ravagers he'll just run amok with them, waiting for squads to finish close combat and then blasting them.

I know this isn't very helpful in a direct sort of way, but I'm trying to give you a DE player's perspective. I know Krootox and their guns may not be very effective, but it may be that you need something that can at least make the DE player think about where he moves his Ravagers. If you stick them on the edge of a wood or something they might last for a bit. The melta council thing sounds too short ranged unless you get them early on when you infiltrate. Oh, and Kroot Rifles won't do a thing to the front armour of a Ravager. (They will do a job on Raiders though, which is handy to remember. I've lost many a Raider to small arms fire).

Too true, thanks for playing devil's advocate (a fitting term for DE) SilentTempest.

Kroot are very poorly equipped to take out such vehicles, there's no two ways about it. Krootox are overpriced and generally sucky, so they won't see any table time typically. Melta council can close quickly, but they only have BS3 and will cause glancing hits. Mass Kroot rifles is probably the way to go. I typically field a shooty squad or two (12-14 kroot+shaper, all kroot rifles) to bulk out ==My== army and add some firepower (AP6 bolter and +1A in cc, yes please!:yes: )

Any more ideas?
