How odd looking. I'm half wondering if they dazzle the enemy with fireworks. "Look out the orcs are coming! Quickly fire full strenght, maybe it will distract them." *poof* *bam* *zowie* "Oooo pretty."

I like it... perhaps with a different paint job though.

Wondering what's up with crew more than anything, it looks like one of the metal helblaster crew models and 2 of the regular plastic cannon crew /:

well, not sure what to think....if the rules are amazing then, well i have to have one. If they are bad then, well i wont have one. It just doesnt "feel" right to me somehow:wacko:

That is a dream come true model for an ork player:w00t: has to be the best way to model twin linked rokkits on a battlewagon yet. Only GW would release it as a Empire model. I can see more ork players buying that then Empire players

I have to agree, that would look amazing as a 40k Ork conversion... just cut off the eagles, and strap on some skulls or something, and you've got yourself a Orky Doom Machine!

I think it's awsome!

Go fireworks!

Looks like just one more step down the road of rapidly progressing technology for the Empire. I think a weapon like this would be much better suited for a Cathay army. I have to wonder why, after all the criticisms of Empire gunlines, they gave them another "gun"...

Cathay does not exist! The golden demon section of the latest white dwarf forbids it!

And good point about this being more 40k than anything - I'm already seeing potential for this to replace a missile launcher arm on a dreadnought... reminds me of the old titans/ whirlwind... anything where you can see the individual missiles is cool.

Its a terrible idea, at this rate we'll see steam powered suits of armour. I hate it when fantasty settings try to do 'early' versions of modern technology like this. Its more of a Cathay thing if you intend to convert one up as ancient Japanese armies used fireworks to scare enemy horses.

Yeah, okay, for the time being Cathay does not exist in Golden Daemon contests. That doesnt amount for much in the everchanging minds of GW developers. Who knows waht they will do in the future. My point was that the Chinese used racks of "big fireworks" that this would work well for.

(there was also a Black Gobbo article a few months back showing how a GW employee made a "counts-as" Cathay army using the Brettonians list. Baring them from a painting contest doesnt mean much. GW doesnt know the meaning of being consistant)

It seems that every game on the market is taking the easy way out and making, like the poster before me said, 'early' versions of modern toechnology. Fantasy in the wargaming world is becoming more steampunk every day. Dont get me wrong, I love steam-punk, but I would like to see some 'normal' fantasy still exist in a few years. I also find it disconcerting that fluff-wise the Dwarfs are trailing far behind the Humans in technological developments. But hey, this is the place for our oppinions on the newest releases and rumours isnt it?

The fluff for this thing says a master engineer got the idea from cathay and then turned it into a warmachine and that is is called helstorm becuase of the fact that when they tested it they almost hit the noble they were demonstrating for and he unleashed quite a few nasty words on the engineer. I am unsure about it though.

Thats priceless...hope its true. At least it would lend to some world continuity. I mean, Cathay has been on every world map I can remember since the eighties, and is mentioned several times in the fluff. There is precedent for an exchange of ideas since the last edition had mention of Warhammer's version of Marco Polo.

Nice (clear) pic :)

Have to agree with some of the previous posts – the model doesn’t look very impressive, more like the army is planning to shower the enemy with fireworks. For some reason every time I look at it Elton John’s song “Rocket Man starts playing in my head…

It does have some conversion potential… how about for a Witch Hunters Exorcist Tank?

A friend of mine is a GW red shirt and long time Empire player. He said that during the staff trial game of the new Empire army book, the Hellstorm Rocket Battery wreaked utter havoc amongst the enemy lines and while the Hellstorm may not look impressive on paper in actual game play it is very devastating. He also added that he is replacing his Hellblaster with the Hellstorm and predicts that a lot of Empire players will probably be doing likewise. (Holds up hands) Not my beliefs, I am just passing on what he told me.

Cheers,

The modal looks alright i'm not impressed or disappointed but it could be worst, I still look forward to taking 1 or 2 of them in my army along with a mortar or 3 :shifty:

for some reason i find that GW is losing their plot, the Helbalser's cool, steam tank maybe but this Hellstorm thing :x

i find the fantasy is more advanced than 40k, funny that but stupid:yes:

is up to youse guys but i find that the idea sucks, big time, whats next suisidal (spelling) squirrels!

I think this is cool because the Empire is supposed be the extreme of everything (and often not in a good sense). Extreme engineering (pigeon bombs, clockwork horse, steam tank etc.), extreme magic (the bright wizards are quite pyromanical outside of the battlefield) and so on.

Bah!
I am displeased at some of the new Empire things.
Out of all the models, some of this technology is my least favorite:
Gyrocopter-pretty cool, a little iffy, but the Dwarfs need something mobile, and a hangglider or such wouldn't feel right. It works.

Steam Tank-all right, not a huge technological piece, considering the gyrocopter, and at least it doesn't have a great cannon or the like on it (I'm talking range-wise). Again, it works.

Helstorm Rocket Battery-at first, I really disliked this one, now I don't mind it so much, but it has the same misfire chance, albiet a chance for it to hit itself, as all Dwarf artillery except the Organ Gun, which has twice the chance to explode. Empire artillery should be deadly, both to the opponent and to the player. I think it should have at least an explosion on 1-2, if not 1-3, but then again there's a two-in-six chance of it hitting itself after misfire. Change the misfire, and I'll be happy.

Mechanical Steed-I hate it. I hate it. I hate it. Not only is it a mechanical freaking horse, it causes impact hits because of 'electricity' running through it. I would think of that as a feat of engineering today, but the one reason I let this slide is because of Burlok Damminson's arm, and the Mark VII Slayer Armor, but I don't like those either (not to say I will never field them, but I'm sure Empire players won't hesitate to field Mechanical Steeds if the need them). Make it explode on a 5+ every time it moves, and I'll be happy.

I apologize for the rant, and I apologize if any of my information is incorrect, but this is my opinion on what I know. All I know is, with Empire technology getting safer, Dwarf technology needs to get more destructive.

Gotta agree with the above on the darn horse. It looks cool but come on, I can respect the idea that empire engineers go to extremes but that contraction would make a dwarf envious.

My biggest problem with the new empire line is the 10 state troops per box BS. You used to get a whole box of either swordsmen or halberdiers, not anymore.

Sorry to get off subject.
