View Full Version : Empire Army book The Paint Monkey December 5th, 2006, 23:38 I've managed to wangle a new Empire army book into my possesion. It's pretty neat but no huge changes to the army, more a boost to the character of the army.
Now- the rules won't let me transcribe large parts of the book and I don't want to ruin that new book feeling for everyone so I'm not going to say anything unless there are specific rumours that people may want confirmed/quashed.
It's been a long time since I played empire and I've not really followed the empire threads so if anyone wants to fire of a query or two then let me know! Lictor1989 December 5th, 2006, 23:45 Well really this is something I have heard and it is for the warrior priest's prayers. The one that allows you to reroll to hit and wound now can that be used on magical weapons now?
Otherwise thats the only one that is bugging me at the moment and I would appreciate if you would tell me  . Hmm... Most of the prayers (there's 5) affect the priest, a character or a unit champion and the prayer decription doesn't mention specific exclusions for magic weapons so I guess the answer is 'yes, it works on magical weapons'. Sweet that is awsome makes me wonder what kinds of new combos you could give your WP and the new Arch Lectors for weapons (thinking how nice the Hellstrums mace will be with hatred plus the prayer can help for later turns as well).
Thanks for the reply  . The Paint Monkey December 7th, 2006, 00:28 That's it? No more questions? What about the 4 out 0f 5 specials in plastic. 3 out of 4 rares in plastic, too.
Oh, well... Lictor1989 December 7th, 2006, 04:54 That's it? No more questions? What about the 4 out 0f 5 specials in plastic. 3 out of 4 rares in plastic, too.
Oh, well...
True and really most of the Empire range is plastic though Greatswords would be really nice if they were too...
Though I have another quick one to ask is how is the grenade launcher any good? The Paint Monkey December 7th, 2006, 07:45 is how is the grenade launcher any good?
You mean the Grenade Launching Blunderbuss? Hmmm... It's ok. Range is 8 inches less than a repeater rifle and has the same move/shoot restrictions. It doesn't have a template and is only a single shot at S6. Against good (really good) armour it would probably be better than a repeater but otherwise I'm not convinced. Certainly not convinced enough to make up for a silly looking model.
How much am I allowed to say here? I'm trying to give a gist of the rules without fully copying them down. Let me know if I'm being too vague, or indeed, too specific. Doomwaker December 7th, 2006, 11:03 The Paint Monkey: are you the one who has the thread on warhammerempire.com? About the new army book, that is. Hex December 7th, 2006, 20:38 I've managed a nice, long peek at the book as well. I love the extra fluff, a bit of the dry humour, the layout and the 'special inventions' that Empire really deserve. I can also assist on this thread but I can't remember everything!
And then the annoying GW clerk came up to me and said: 'try and guess the name of my Pistolier's horses' so I put down the book. And the names were terrible. Chestnut, Blackie, Brownie, Camel etc... but they were painted well :)
Hex The Paint Monkey December 8th, 2006, 10:20 The Paint Monkey: are you the one who has the thread on warhammerempire.com? About the new army book, that is.
Nope, not me.
I just have a copy of the book. NiteRabbit December 8th, 2006, 17:29 What about the gunpowder monkey that I've seen on some of the ads for the new Empire models? Does it actually do anything? Because if it does, it'd be a standard choice in my army, just because...it's a powder monkey. Lictor1989 December 9th, 2006, 01:56 Actually I think I have a few concerning detachments. Can you actually give them upgrades such as a shield now? Also have the rules changed really that much for them or is it just a copy paste job? The last thing is I heard that detachments no longer have to be 4 wide to negate rank bonus is this true? Detachments are selected just like any other unit (and can be pretty much any unit except great-swords) as far as equipment goes. They're limited in size and can't take command groups but that's about it. As far as combat res goes they work just the same as everyone else- they just have special detachment rules, which I can't go into here (they're pretty good though).
I haven't seen any rules for a powder monkey, sadly. :( I'll look again. gunslinger2005 December 10th, 2006, 12:54 what are the new rare and special choices... only rares i am familiar with is Flagellants, DOW, and Hellblaster? Doomwaker December 10th, 2006, 17:30 Well the steam Tank is now a rare choice, and outriders are a new special choice. gunslinger2005 December 11th, 2006, 02:09 do the outriders have a 0-1 designator ? Lictor1989 December 11th, 2006, 05:52 do the outriders have a 0-1 designator ?
Nope to my knowledge I don't think they have that for any really (even greatswords have had their 0-1 removed to my knowledge). So you could take two steam tanks as well if you wanted which could be interesting.
Though I did hear a not so good rumor that they took out the DOW slot in the rare now  .
Oh and thanks The Paint Monkey for the info that is very cool that detachments can take shields and such also I heard that they only needed to be 5 or more unit strength to take away rank bonus this true? Fat_Badger December 12th, 2006, 18:26 I hear the steam tank itself is getting a major overhaul, (which I find necessary as right now it's nigh impossible to handle with some armies). Could you give us a little teaser of how you go about damaging the thing now? Us poor elves with a lack of S7 weapons would like to be able to hurt the damned thing! Well from the rumors I have heard it will have 10W, 1+ save, and 6T and will act similar to a chariot (though to my knowledge will not die to str 7 hits). So that may not be very good at all for you :ninja: . Though I know very little about the old steam tank so it may be good too. That's a pretty reasonable summary. The T6 makes it much less formidable and can feasibly be smashed up with a couple of big hits. Us Elfy types will still have a few probs, I think. Jared van Kell December 13th, 2006, 12:42 what are the new rare and special choices... only rares i am familiar with is Flagellants, DOW, and Hellblaster?
Special- Outriders
Rare- Hellstorm Rocket Battery and Steamtank. Hmmm... Well that's certainly better, lol. With the current rules, 2 RBTs can fire telephone poles into it all game and be lucky to cause a scratch! At least now the thing is damageable!
Another question. Is the tank still immune to all magic? I'm especially concerned about the lore of metal, (as those spells would be very effective fluff wise), and the pit of shades, (as the tank most likely could not dodge a giant hole in the ground.) Well again from what I heard (I do hear a lot don't I...) ONLY damage spells affect them so no healing them or anything so that may be better for you elf types now. Rhinosaur December 15th, 2006, 07:50 Last year in White Dwarf magazine, they wrote an article about knightly orders and gave some options on customizing them with advantages and disadvantages. Did this make it into the book? Any changes/additions to magic items? Is the Arch Lector (also from White Dwarf) a Lord choice? I doen't seem to have any magical invulnerabilities except that it will automatically pass any test it's required to make (except Initiative, it not being too nimble). | |
