View Full Version : New High Elves book rumour Stonehambey December 22nd, 2006, 21:18 Just a few quick rumours on some changes being made to the High Elves in their next book. It's not official, I got word from a friend of a friend of a friend of a GW insider ;)
Spearmen are going to be cheaper
Silver Helms are going to be more expensive
Intrigue at court is no more
A lot of the 0-1 restrictions are being removed
And probably some changes on the magic items etc
I'll keep you posted if I hear of anything else:)
Ciao
Stonehambey Da Mighty Camel December 23rd, 2006, 16:31 Those things are quite obvious, altough I must say that it's nice that we have some words on what's happening with them.
Good find Stoney. MasokisticAngel December 23rd, 2006, 16:48 If they make swordmasters now 0-1 ima be so happy. 2 smaller units running around to flank, maybe a mage in each of them, ohhh cant wait. Vampire_gir December 27th, 2006, 08:21 im hope they make the spearmen cheaper. I never liked that we didnt have a single model under 10 pts (not including ships company). i think it would also be realy awesome if we could mount our characters on drakes just cheaper/weaker versions of dragons. Jared van Kell December 27th, 2006, 12:46 I agree. On a whole I will be looking forward to the changes. MouseC112 December 29th, 2006, 16:52 From an opponent point of view I really hope that add some variety to the Core choices for High Elves. I'm so sick of seeking the wall o' spears backed by magic and bolt throwers. I actually really enjoyed playing a HE player who used a mounted army as it was a nice change. I think some variety in stances and plastic models would be a nice change and add some character to the army and would be welcome on both sides of the table.
And for the love of god someone finally use Tyrion as i've probably placed 10-15 high points games against HE players and they always bring Teclis, which I don't mind as i really find him a point sink in a way.
PS: don't change shadow warriors as i think they are perfect the way they are as a highly mobile and effective special choice. Maybe give them an option for improved save in cover or something. Even something like the night fight rule from 40K would be a cool option which would be neat to play against.
SUMMARY:
-more army choices especially core
-additional plastic models/ different pose options
-reduce cost on Tyrion/ make him more playable spacemarine December 29th, 2006, 18:02 what is 0-1 crucial December 29th, 2006, 18:14 aye tis good news. ive started painting some more of my high elves again in anticipation of the new release :D ... just RBT/archers/SH/spearelves like... dont wanna paint some unit and find out that its gonna be redone in the form of nice shiny new plastic models *cough SWORDMASTERS cough* :D Stonehambey December 29th, 2006, 19:13 what is 0-1
You can take a unit of them, or none at all =)

Maybe he meant: what units are 0-1? Stonehambey December 29th, 2006, 23:32 Maybe he meant: what units are 0-1?
Good point. In which case, I have no idea which units are going to be 0-1 in the new army book =)
Ciao
Stonehambey Tenozuma December 30th, 2006, 14:13 He also could have meant: Which units are 0-1 in the current army book.
I'm not entirely sure but I think swordmasters, white lions, phoenix guard and maybe another one are all 0-1. brendino January 8th, 2007, 02:45 that would be great- high elves are quite over priced as it is. also plastic swordmasters would be great. also i like the drake idea
brendino CaptainSarathai January 8th, 2007, 03:04 I actually really enjoyed playing a HE player who used a mounted army as it was a nice change.
Mouse, I love you. But don't get any ideas
I want them to make the cavalry more expensive, that way I can play bigger fights with my army. I don't really care if they remove the 0-1 penalties on anything except Dragon Princes, because I don't normally use infantry. Plastic would be good. I want to do some sick conversions if they go to plastic.
Sad: logic says
Spring- not doin' anythign
Summer- World Campaigns/ LOTR
Fall- Space Marines, World Campaigns
Winter- High Elves
It's the pattern that GW tends to use. We won't be seeing anything but 1 or 2 new models for the rest of the year, but we'll get some nice toys to spend our Christmas money on. Da Mighty Camel January 8th, 2007, 08:30 No SMs this fall though, they're arriving a lot sooner. ;) Katie Drake January 8th, 2007, 10:43 He also could have meant: Which units are 0-1 in the current army book.
And this is why on LO we like posts that stretch longer than 3 words. ;)
And what's with this drake idea? I'll not have my kind ridden by Elves! Da Mighty Camel January 8th, 2007, 10:45 The High Elves have these elite riders called Dragon Princes. In the days before (and in) the War of the Beard when the High Elves clashed with the Dwarves, the Dragon Princes and lesser Elven nobles mounted Drakes, spawnlings of Dragons. Nowdays the DPs mount horses.
With a little luck, the Drakes will return! :D Syphonides of Orell January 9th, 2007, 19:13 It'd be nice to have Drakes. A heavy cost but hard hitting and fluffheavy (hopefully) unit.
I hope, hope hope so much. Fat_Badger January 9th, 2007, 19:21 For Drakeriders, are they supposed to come back in a unit? Or would a drake be a new mount for a commander? I'm not really sure what I'd prefer. CaptainSarathai January 9th, 2007, 19:53 The High Elves have these elite riders called Dragon Princes. Nice fluff change there GW. The Dragon Princes rode friggin' DRAGONS, none of that 'lesser' stuff. Way to go changing the fluff to meet the rules...
Besides, why to the dragons (drakes, whatever) decide to wake up now, WHEN THEY HAVEN'T BEEN IN ANY EDITIONS BEFORE THIS, or even mess with in ANY EDITIONS BEFORE THIS??! i seem to remember they were in 3rd edition? but then again so many things were..... Fat_Badger January 9th, 2007, 20:25 Dragon baby boom perhaps? I take it you've never seen the War of the Beard rules from the 6th edition? Drakes are a viable mount there, three er unit I believe; just smaller, younger dragons. There is no background changing, only the most powerful and eldest Dragon Riders would actually rider dragons; that and after a short while very few could be waken to go to war.
Personally.. I hope the elves suck! Dress wearing androgynous gits that they are. -__^
*hefts axe and strokes his beard*
KU Ulrion January 10th, 2007, 01:57 Hi 1st post aswell, i was in my GW today and to be honest the manager there wasnt really that sure what the high elf changes where going to be, i got back into the hobby (why o why..) about a month ago since a 4-5 year exile and started high eleves now finding there are going to be redone!
i am seriously hoping for
-Better uses for the Phoneix Guard
- Str 4 for Dragon Princes (O how i dream!)
- Swordmasters removed as 0-1 (Empire got their Greatsword 0-1 removed) The Paint Monkey January 10th, 2007, 05:22 Well if High Elves are getting formidable reptile cavalry then I hope, as a Dark Elf player, that their's suffer Stupidity, too. Manu_Forti January 10th, 2007, 09:54 Well if High Elves are getting formidable reptile cavalry then I hope, as a Dark Elf player, that their's suffer Stupidity, too.
pft.. Knowing High Elves, Im sure theyll be 'intelligent' not 'stupid', flying, and shoot S10 lightning bolts from their asses *rolls eyes*.. lol
Here's a link to a thread on the same subject in the HE forum. Theres a decent rumours list quoted in there..

KU, move those little meat-sacks you call legs & go back into whatever hole you crawled out of. It takes COURAGE to wear a dress!! Cant say the same for thick armour, coward ;o)
Cheers CaptainSarathai January 22nd, 2007, 02:40 Well if High Elves are getting formidable reptile cavalry then I hope, as a Dark Elf player, that their's suffer Stupidity, too.
Nah, our won't suffer stupidity, but purchasing the unit will run you $100 for 3 models, and each model will cost about 60+ points. End result, not stupid- just wasteful. Dark Lioness January 25th, 2007, 00:35 Dark Elves do have their own flying reptile cavalry that's smaller and more numerous than Drakes (about the size of a Cold One) the Darkblade comic calls them Doom-Wings. laughingman January 26th, 2007, 00:49 Actually according to reliable sources, "Harry, nakedfisherman", from warseer. There will be no drake riders at all,
The resoning about this is that Gw learned its leson from the travesty that is bretonian flying calvary, and dont want to repeat the same mistake twice.
I do knw that there will be a new unit, and "major revision" to the current rules for some of the units. Im looking at you pheonix guard, and swordmasters.
A really cool theory is that spear elves will get a special rule wen theyare charged, sorry I dont know what.
Well thats all i know. CaptainSarathai January 26th, 2007, 02:12 It would be good for all you foot sloggers if you got a special anti-charge rule, but I'll bet that it's actually the reason the spearmen are cheaper. They probably only get the three-ranks on the turn that they get charged. It wouldn't surprise me at all. Kinda like the changes made to the Empire Pistoliers- no more shooting on first round of CC. | |
