View Full Version : What is up with the new look? cirquemeter March 10th, 2007, 23:58 What is up with this new look for LO? It is a bit much to get used to, and really I like the old stlye Way, Way better. Please return to the old style format. This "Script" format is just too wierd.
{confused}
PS. Besides, the old style lookd much more professional. This looks very third rate. If we want to be taken seriously and professtionally, we need to look the part. The "Home Page" still looks great, but this new forum looks weak. Imperialis_Dominatus March 11th, 2007, 00:03 Wierd like an egghead smiley...
I think this format uses less bandwidth or something. The server is acting up less, and that is more important to me than aesthetics. DavidVC04 March 11th, 2007, 00:09 This has happened before when the forum was being restored. Blackhat will get it back to normal, I imagine. Caluin March 11th, 2007, 00:09 PS. The 'new look' is temporary. There must have been a massive over haul, and what you are seeing now is simply the lack of style sheets for the forum. They'll have to be redone manually.
Patience, young ones. LO just recovered from some serious injuries... it'll be a little bit before she's back on her feet fully. cirquemeter March 11th, 2007, 00:11 Current and potential advertisers may be turned off by the lack of asthetics.

More true than anything I've ever heard...

I completly agree, but the problem I think should be adressed is where did the last 2 days worth of posts go?
EDIT: 3 People posted befor me?!? Man I must be getting slow with 1) old age 2) sleep depravation...
I hope it's only the second :ninja: arishnakoger March 11th, 2007, 00:29 Aesthetics doesn't really bother me.
I mean come on, the best page in the universe is just a black background, some text, and some pictures, but it's still the best page in the universe.
trust me, that place gets more hits daily than McDonalds and spends absolutely nothing on advertising. Tygra March 11th, 2007, 00:36 Yes, rather worryingly loads of posts form the last few days have disappeared, if this is only temporary now can they be recovered? DavidVC04 March 11th, 2007, 00:43 Looks like the appearance is back to normal. About the posts, we'll probably have to wait for an admin, super, or BH himself to tell us about that.
It looks like it could affect more than posts. I lost some rep, which is no big deal, but it makes me wonder about infractions, warnings, bans, etc. that could've been lost. Blackhat March 11th, 2007, 00:48 We have had a lot of problems with LO recently so we needed to restore a backup from March 7th 2007.
Hopefully things will work better now Caluin March 11th, 2007, 01:15 We have had a lot of problems with LO recently so we needed to restore a backup from March 7th 2007.

While unfortunate, a server/hardware failure happens often enough that people shouldn't get too worked up over it. After all, this is exactly why IT professionals have backups in the first place, to minimize the damage when it does eventually happen. No machine will ever run indefinetly, and sometimes horrible, horrible crashes do occur.
Thanks Blackhat for all the work you've done in recovering the site. Having done it myself (I work in the IT field) on multiple systems, I know exactly how much work recovering a site can be, especially when the SQL database has a ton of information.
Hopefully we shan't see any more issues for some time now (or ever, if we're real lucky!). Adahn March 11th, 2007, 01:22 I'm not concerned with the new look - I'm concerned with the Roll-back. Caluin March 11th, 2007, 01:39 I'm not concerned with the new look - I'm concerned with the Roll-back.
I once dealt with a site that had had no backups what-so-ever, and lost years worth of data. That company went out of business, shortly there-after. But that is a rare occurance.
Closer to home, Bolter and Chainsword died some months (years?) back, and lost close to three or four months worth of data. But they recovered, and are up and stronger than ever.
Two days worth of information is nothing. I'm just thankful that LO was able to be recovered at all, and that the amount of data lost was a pittance compared to other horror stories I've seen/heard about. Adahn March 11th, 2007, 05:24 Indeed - I understand that a complete lack of backup would have been much more brutal in regards to the forum and the community itself - so I'm not bitchin' as much as I probably would have hehe. At the time I was just a bit miffed due to the fact that two threads a friend posted were erased from history due to the roll-back and they were really awesome. The Toon March 11th, 2007, 06:30 Well it will take some time. But I just found something wrong I don't see and clubs clans section, or anything that was in that area. Has this happend to you guys? At the first glance, yes.
But if you look to the right on the main fourm page you should see a box with 'General Off Topic' and 'General Hobby Talk' in it.
Click on 'General Off Topic' and then select the sub-fourm 'Clubs and Clans' | |
