From the mouth of Marc Gascoigne, publisher at the Black Library...

In addition to "Fulgrim" (McNeill) , and "Descent of Angels" (Scanlon), we now have "Legion" by Dan Abnett due out in spring '08. No word yet on what it's about.

I was very excited to read that Marc Gascoigne confirmed that Legion will follow the exploits of the Alpha Legion:yes: along with Imperial Troops. See thread below for actual quote.

could be...:shifty:

more likely that they'll never reveal it, overwise it won't be their darkest secret if everybody knows about it:cry:

Currently, there is only 3, not including the one that just came out. I don't include Flight of the Eisenstein as it's not at B&N yet.

So, 4.

I'm going to assume the series ends with the final battle on Terra. I love this series.

my reckconing is we will get one for most of the legions that were heavily involved in the HH, with the final book being the Battle for Terra as mentioned above. hopefully we will get a book for the Wolves of Russ destroying the heretics sons of that traitorous mutant Magnus. For Russ!

Or if we are truly lucky we will get to see the final damnation of the thousand sons as they try to defend their own world from destruction at the hands of the very peopel they were trying to help...8)

I can't wait to see them eventually get to the trap of the imperial fists fleet, hopefully seeing McNeil do another novel based on the imperial fists and iron warriors.:D

Oh no HaZ, the battle I speak of comes before the iron cage incident; this happened right after the drop pod massacre.

Half of the imperial fists legion and all of Dorn's fleet had been sent along with the three legions, they had been on terra and so were farther away (and further delayed in the warp by the chaos gods). The drop pod massacre happened and then the survivors made it back to terra just as the imperial fists fleet made it to Istvaan V before being caught in a warp storm where they were attacked by half the iron warriors legion.

Thats the event I want to see, when mgihty Perterbo is tasked to cripple the imperial fist fleet personally.

You're not the only one.:D

I have to say I've been less than impressed by the books so far, although Flight of the Eisenstein could turn this around. It looks good so far.

I am really impressed with the HH line of books so far. There is just so much that they can milk out of this sceries. I would like to see the fall ofthe Night Lords personally. They are probley my fav CSM legion. I think that the IW are a little 'played out' fluff wise. Let's see some of the other things that happened during the HH. Like the virus bombing and the famous tank battles of Talleran. If you have access to the old Adeptus Titanticus rule books there is a great story about a Titan Principus who comes to Tallera as green as they come. Its actually really neat to follow im growing up (mentally) during this titanic ( heh pun intented :shifty: ) battle for the planet. I cant wait to get FotE, its not out here yet in Canada wich blows hard ( and not the good kinda blowing either :shifty: ) But that was always one of my favoret little stories. This is the origional story reprinted without permission from the origional Space Marine (epic) 1st edition rules.

" You realise that you are preaching mutiny?" Brother-Captain Tarvitz nodded gravely. "Betray Horus or betray the Emperor. What choice is there?" The Space Marine officers looked at each other in silence for a few seconds. Tarvitz leaned forward across the table, reasting on his fists.

"Fact: in the five Chapters under his command, Horus has installed this system of feral-world warrior lodges that he picked up on Davin. The standard Imperial organisations and command structures laid down in the Codex have been completly disregarded.

"Fact: the bulk of the Marines in our five chapters have repudiated their Marine's oath and sworn loyalty to the feral world deities. Further, they have sworn loyality to Horus personally. Heresy and blasphmey.

"Fact: the Isstvan campaign has been conducted without even the pretence of orders from Terra. While I do not presume to speak for the Emperor, I cannot believe that the use of a virus bomb on Isstvan III was justifiable. A single Compay from a single Chapter dropped on the rebel headquarters would have answered the case.

" I say the Emperor must know what is happening here. Who is with me? Varren? What say the World Eaters?" A red uniformed officer stood.

'There are fifteen men I can trust. They are yours."

"Garro?" A captain of the Death Guard looked up.

"A dozen. I wish it were more."

"Ten from the Luna Wolves."

"Twenty from the Thousand Sons."

"Be sure they are all trustworthy. If you have the slighest doubt, do not commit them. Of my own Emperor's Children, there are ten I am sure of, including myself." There was a pause as the paucity of their force sunk in.

"Seventy Marines," said Brother-Captain Varren of the World Eaters, 'The sum of our five Chapter numbers-a good omen, perhaps?" A couple of the others smiled, and the tension of the moment was broken. "Seventy Marines." repeated Tarvitz. "Enough for any task, I think. So, to work. Varren, your men will sieze control of the frigate Eisenstein in three hours from now. It is on the edge of the fleet, and should be clear for the jump to Warp Space." Varren nodded.

"The Eisenstein has been having manoeuvre-drive trouble." he said, with exaggerated innocence. "She's been falling behind the fleet all day." Tarvitz grinned.

"Good. The rest of us will arrange for our ships to lag behind with her in case of... further trouble with the drives. Three hours from now, we will all assemble full crew for an emergency briefing. Meanwhile, our trusted men take control of the systems on all five ships. clear all remaining ships from around the Eisenstein and keep her covered until she makes the jump to warp space. Then, cause as much damage as you can to the rest of the fleet. History will vindicate us."

He turned to Varren. "Your World Eaters are our only hope," he said, "Do not fail." Varren's eyes became serious. "We cannot fail," he said, "There is to much at stake. Your deaths will be avenged."

That is one of my all time fav stories in ALL the 40k timelines/games. I just thought I would share it with those who don't have access to some of the older stuff. I hope you enjoyed it .

That's the original Eisenstein fluff? That was better than the way they handled it in Galaxy in Flames. I know older fluff is not necessarily more valid than newer material, but there are too many discrepancies in the HH books for me to reconcile them with the, IMO superior older stories.

i do prefer the older fluff to be honest, i didnt know any specifics about that battle Pertuarbo, will ne new to me, i want so much for them to fill as much as possible in these novels with as much fluff as exists regarding the Heresy. It deserves to be told, and told well.

Just thought of something that I can't wait to see, er I mean read. Sigismund vs Kharn and how the betrayer becomes the champion of Khorne thanks to the first captain of the imperial fists. Talk about irony (I think...8))

How many books are there going to be in this series? Nine? A trilogy of trilogies?

The Battle of Terra will probably take at least two books on its own, unless they're 500+ pages each.

There are, however, a lot of major events that still need to be covered:
- The Drop Pod Massacre (addressed in "Fulgrim", I think)
- The Burning of Prospero
- The Dark Angels' Fall from Grace (addressed in "Descent of Angels")
- The Battle of Calth

and then, of course, there are tons of events of lesser importance that need to be included for the sake of consistency and completeness.

So far, I have had no complaints. Even some occasionally weak writing doesn't turn me away from this sense that I'm reading history. Fictional history, to be sure, but history nonetheless. We all know what happened, now we get to see more of the why's, which are always more interesting.

(I'm also looking forward to seeing more Imperial Fisting! Rogal Dorn FTW!) :w00t:

I do believe after reading tFoTE that Garro and his remaining marines become the founders of the Grey Knights. I wonder how demon hunter players feel about that lol.

I cannot wait for "Descent of Angels" One of these days I will have to dig through my old stuff and find my 2nd Ed. codex chaos. Some of the fluff in there was amazing, especially the fluff that hinted at cypher being Luther and possibly ( through some unknown way) trying to atone for what he has done. I believe that this is why Cypher has always been the most interesting special character in any army. At least imo.

its all going to be so good, i love the DA backstory and fluff even tho im a dedicated follower of Russ.

im reading FoTE again now so i'll see if i can pick up on the GK stuff.

ive recently discovered some of the fluff about what the Emperor was upto bakc on Terra during these times, according to the HH Art Books from sabertooth, so i wonder if they will officially 'canonise' it. the validity of their fluff has always been ever so ambiguous.

If you mean the Imperial Webway, there will be hell to pay if they do canonise it. My firey wrath shall descend upon them, and all that. Seriously, they need to leave some questions in the fluff, rather than filling it with rubbish answers.

It's right at the end of the book. The Regent of Terra said something about how the emporer could use marines with the skills that they have acquired ( To me this means facing daemons and such). That coupled with the faith that Garro picked up during the book points entirely at them becoming the first GKs to me. Maybe they will be the marines that go with the emporer onto Horus' ship for the final showdown.

i remember now, makes sense actually. would be nice to see a book on the birth of the GK. As for the imperial webway, ive not read volume 4 of the art books yet so i dont have all the details, but i quite like the idea, ive always wanted to know what the emperor was upto that meant he withdrew from leading the Crusade.

Something has been niggling at me since I read Galaxy in Flames. Were the Marines on the Eisenstein not supposed to be made up from more than one Legion? It seems weird that they would change it to just Death Guard.

Captain Haz, the most common idea seems to be that the Emperor was working on creating something to allow the Human race to achieve it's full potential. This suggests to me that it would be something a bit more exciting than a load of tubes that are a rip-off of Eldar technology. Their writers have lost their touch.

Captain_HaZ
April 24th, 2007, 00:21
seems like that doesnt it.

retconning the fluff from the 70 Astartes from varying Legions to just Death Guard plus one Luna Wolf, meh, probably just simplifying it all at the expense at the expense of the original idea.

well i finished FoTE, seems like something to do with the Inquisition anyway, the Sigillite even mention, evil, witch and xenos, the 3 ordos. i can see the astartes developing into the grey knights for sure
