Hi:
I did a search, and checked the links sticky, but couldn't find any tutorials specifically covering using cork to make scenic bases. I swear I remember seeing one out there with pix and everything, but I can't find it now. Apologies in advance if it's in an obvious spot and I'm too dumb to spot it. Anyone know where I can find a good one?

What kind of help were you looking for? What is your end goal? Maybe I could give you some specific pointers.
I use cork all the time for various projects... You can get very different looks depending on what you are going for.

Pretty much what you have there, minus the snow and extra ballast on the top. As you will see from my soon-to-be-posted photos, my bases are gonna have a "martian" look, so I'm guessing it will look like a reddish rock outcropping. I am using the metal Necron "on foot" model, and I guess I only have two questions:
1) What do you glue the cork tiles together with, PVA glue or something stronger?
2) Would you recommend I cut off the flat piece of metal at the lord's feet that normally would go into the slotted base, or work with it somehow?

Whenever I use cork as the primary basing material - I always cut away the metal clip on the bottom of the miniature. (I usually do this anyway...). I then drill a hole in the foot and glue a paperclip or brass rod into the foot and snip it to fit the depth of the cork. Then I push the rod into the cork in the position I want. When I am satisfied I then super glue it into place. If it is easier I will paint both the base and figure separate and then glue when finished.
As for glueing the tile. I use super glue (actually zap-a-gap) it is stronger than PVA. I really don't use PVA for much (maybe some flocking).
