alright, so i have yet to make "ink" paints useful.. i assume its mainly for highlights etc.. but can someone please enlighten me. :yes:

inking werves to darken recesses while leaving highlighted tips untouched.

for eg the wraithbone on a farseer, highlight it up to the desired brilliance of bone, brown ink wash it to darken the recesses and define the features

also very useful in very light coats for "aging" stuff - a very very thing coat of brown ink on a sword = slight rust + aging.

Inks are something that took me a while to use and get used to too.

As Exploited pointed out, inks are used mainly to darken or shade area's of a model. How I normally use my inks is like this.......

Basecoat the model a desired colour, so for example if I was painting a face, Bronzed flesh.
Then wash the face with a 50/50 mix of flesh wash ink/water leaving the ink pool in the reccesses. Leave to dry.
Finally highlight to your desired finish with more bronzed flesh/dwarf flesh/elf flesh leaving the ink in the deepest parts of the model. Finally ink tends to dry slightly shiney so most people give the model a coat of matte varnish to dull the shine.

Very true, inks can really get the best details out models with alot of recesses with relatively little effort. Metals, skin, leather, all of these things can benefit from a good watered down ink wash. Usually the inks are too dark for what you want so mixing the with water untill you get the desired color really helps.
