Okay if and of you guys who Play LOTR and have a Mamuk how man inchs is from tail to trunk? (I want to make 3 Squiggoiths from 3 sets and need to know if they are 12 long)

erm, i might be wrong about this but a squiggoiths are for 40k/warhammer ork/c's
right ? well i hate to rain on your parade but you can not use LoftR models or bits on warhammer/40k models. Its a stupid rule and unfair, but their you have it. If you do carry on and use LoftR on 40k stuff and take it to a G.W shop then you are likely to be told it can not be used in games and such.

why make a stupid rule like that? WHY! that means no-one can really use squiggoth or winged tyrants (well you could use dragon wings, but bugs with scales are creepy)

Actually, didn't they lift that rule? It was something to do with the copyright for lord of the rings not entirely belonging to them.

I just heard they had lifted it, though do not quote me on that.

the mail order troll i just phoned and asked insists that the rule is still place
and LoftR components can NOT be used on any other games workshop model which is not part of the LoftR model. I agree the rule is unfair and silly, but its also a copyright issue so nothing can be done. ( unless you buy the copyright to LoftR ! )
I feel for you tho, i was told that the Balrongs wings are the best wings for my winged hive tyrant but i would not be able to use it in any games workshop store or tornement so it would be a waste.

My local games workshop are pretty laid back about this theres plenty of lotr conversions used in 40k and fantasy, i use vampire count mounted on a balrog sometimes its my winged nightmare, ive even used it against the manager during store opening hours, he didnt mention anything about it. Theres a guy who uses lotr cave trolls converted with minotaur heads as some chaos unit (not sure what though). I suppose some stores are stricter than others.

Are we talking about GT tournament rules? 'cause if you can convert a model from other companies stuff as long as it is a certain % GW, then why would there be a special rule saying 0% LotR? Copyright mass ass, GW isn't encroaching on IP, it is the player's modeling, not GWs official ones...

Maybe I'm just curmudgeonly, but if some ...fellow in a GW store says I can't play with their products in their store, we'd end up having a very long conversation about it while they try to justify their decision. GW is doing badly enough, financially, without turning folks away for using their products.

I'm sure this "rule" would also annoy my prospective opponent since folks tend to want to PLAY when they've shown up at a store, not have a lawyer tell them their toys are illegal.

I was reading through the GT rules pack for the 2007/08 competition and it says you are allowed to use LOTR models in it however your army cannot be included in the nominations for best army.

Legally, A GameWorkshop staff member cannot tell you to convert a LOTR model with/to a 40k or Fantasy model. You are, however, allowed do whatever you want. This is purely for licensing issues.
