Hey all you goofy goobers.
Just thought I'd start up a generic thread as a place to dump all my scribbles so I'm not clustering up the forum. First off; some kind of emo elf thing/abstract self portrait. Enjoy.

Blackhat's new blog network for terrain crafters!
I looked at your picture...here are my reactions.
I love the coloring, it's subtle changes.
It's interesting to me how the piercings make his one eye showing mysterious. At first his eye, the mirror of his soul, looks soulful. Then a bit defiant, maybe resentful? The rings in his lips are like vampire fangs overhanging his vulnerable lower lip. The nose spikes, they look almost Orkish, I've never seen anyone wearing those in real life.
His shoulders are slumped, giving another point to softness...is he depressed, defeated, or fading into the background of the outlandish garishness and posturings in the drama of everyday life?
Anyway, those were my thoughts from a quick look at your art. You're good, I hope you'll share more!
But I have to say that second eye, the one hidden by the fringe... even though I can't see it much, it creeps me out. It just seems to be in the wrong spot.
The rest is fantastic, though! I really like the hair, and the colouring on the shirt!
Okay; an update and then I'll try and do some talk-back.

Apologies about the obviousness of the chapter.
Deadstar, I know about the eye... I was going to have the fringe completely cover it but I got to finish it and it really didn't look right. I gave him a teeny bit of left eye at the last minute without really thinking about it. I kind of like the lopsidedness. It's creepy.
Frankie, thank you... though I get the impression you've put a lot more thought into my picture than I did.
He doesn't seem quite as exaggerated as the GW marine art - all gigantic shoulder pads and tiny heads - but that's not necessarily a bad thing.
He doesn't happen to be a loyalist Death Guard or something, does he? I suck at recognising chapters...
Not bad Waru, not bad at all.
The Marine is pretty slick, the only thing that bugs me is that his limbs seem a bit thin. Yeah GW goes overboard with the shoulder pads, but with powered armor it's important to remember that there is a bunch of mechanical BS going on to support the armor/strengthen the wearer. There is more than just plating to consider when you look at it, and power armor plating is decidedly thick for a reason. (That 3+ save has to come from somewhere).
Also i don't know if it's just me but you aren't pulling many highlights out of the work. The whole piece has a bit of a drab tone to it, though I have a feeling you intended for this to happen.
Just done a real quick rush-job as a birthday birthday present, not at all happy with the proportions of the face but I'm starting to feel like I know my way around Photoshop proper. I'm getting a lot better with tweaking things post-ink

I'm in complete agreement about the highlights: I did, as you said, intend for a drab worn-down look but I went too far with it and the overall effect is just ugly. But this is why I'm posting these things up; I'm fairly new to drawing in the grand scheme of things and any feedback you can give is greatly appreciated. I vow never to get in anyway defensive, not ever experiment can end in success right?
The picture itself I did in front of the TV (Watching Firefly! Got to get back in the mood before my Serenity BluRay arrives in the post!), so lesson number two is to have a Marine miniature on hand as a scale reference.
T'was supposed to be a 4th comp Ultramarine, but I soon realised after putting it up that he should have blue shoulder pads not white.

ZOMG an artist who accepts criticism! *Flying tackle hugs*
I must say your color work is astounding. Do some figure studies though, observe people, etc. Work on your proportion a bit. The style you use on your figures is strong, but eventually the mis-proportion is going to force me to stab your eyes out with this spork *holds up spork for reference.*
*sniffs it cautiously*
