Hi my name is james nash been reading warhammer for 3 years my dad got me into it, we both read the same books, u no gaunts ghosts, ravenor, gotrek and felix, time of legends, horus heresy anything that looks interesting. Now we no what most weapons look like from the dawn of war games, but theres sometimes when something comes up that we dont no what it looks like, or what it is, for instance, the "stubber" or "heavy stubber" i tend to hear they are used by pdf quite a lot. Or "ares lictor" i read that one in mechanicum, now i no it tells u a bit about what it looks like and if uve got a good imagination then u can pretty much think what it looks like, but i dont want to keep doing that.
So what i want to no is, is there a technical manual (a very in depth manual) out there, if so whats it called,
ive got a brilliant tm at home for aliens (the film) its brilliant shows all vehicles, weapons, armour people, autopsy pretty much everything u need to no and more.
Thanks i advance,
I'm guessing the closest thing to what you're after would be "The Imperial Munitorum Manual" - maybe this link can take you to it?
I don't know what it's actually like to be honest, but the description seems to fit what you're after.
I know the rulebooks tend to have basic sketches of some of the weapons used, but that's probably not as in-depth as you'd like, is it?
The Munitorum Manual is the best thing for you. It's a Black Library book, the link to it is right here.
With only 60 entries, I believe that it only covers Guard entries and I'm not even sure how many weapons or which ones it covers. I also don't know if it covers armor. Your best bet for checking out tanks and the likes would be to check out the Apocalypse books. Of course, then this is becoming a very expensive collection.
That's probably the best bet. There are some things which you will not be able to find though- Black Library does not answer 100% to GW for fluff, so an author is welcome to create new types of vehicles or equipment as he sees fit.
stubber- this is a catch-all term for any nonstandard (bolter/autocannon) weapon which fires slugs. This would include improvised weapons created by gangers, to planet/unit specific weapons used by various guard units. In game terms, it looks like a standard .50cal BAR.
Ares Lictor- my guess (having never read Mechanicum) if this is referring to Tyrannids, it is a specific genome of Lictor which was first sighted or was prevalent in Ares, either a planet or campaign name. If not, then I have no idea what the weapon might look like, although I've never heard it mentioned outside of Mechanicum, so it's probably not supported by fluff.
thanks for the feed back im going to check out "The Munitorum Manual",
by the way the "Ares Lictor" is like a drednaught but 9 metres tall and fits someone in it that can get out if he chooses. so not tyrannids but thanks for the info.
It may be worth noting that the website Lexicanum has much of this information as well. I often use the site to fill in any fluff holes I have when I'm reading Warhammer books. It usually has pictures as well. Stubber and heavy stubber, for instance, are covered in some detail.
The information on this site comes from lots of different people, so its not always 100% accurate or consistent. And the quality of writing ranges from 'clear' to '5 year old mashing at a keybord". So it's not perfect, but it does tend to cover most of the stuff you'll be looking for an any random occasion...
