i am a uk subscriber so i dont know how relevent this is across the globe but i feel there has been a real lack of quality articles in the 40k section i egerly anticipate my fresh new copy of WD each month and for about 6 months know have had little more than an hours read out of it and i do read and play all three games but where as the other two games are filled with battle reports great painting tips and loads of cool background blerb i find 40k has little but the bare minimum i know that all the games sell whats new in there ranges but i just feel it used to be different (bring back paul sawyer) i loved his layout and to read all the teams comments when they werent confined to one page at the back of the mag and i used to love the qulity battle reports fake or not. i know next month we have tau vs d eldar so again i will lift my spirit and hope for the best.
40K has declined recently, this is due to the dwarfs getting their new army book, so naturally they are getting lots of attention.
I'm no fan of LoTR and in my opinion it has taken up too much space in the latest WD. White dwarf should really be divided up 33%,33%,33% between the systems, that way everyone is happy.
40K needs more diversaty, with the BT release come and gone they should stop doing pointless articles on them, focus more on the other races, even if its just the odd short story here and there.
Well, I think there are some nice things in the later issues of UK WD. How they display the Black Templar and Scout sprues for one, I think this is great pictures/articles, very informative.
The small Killteam battle reports are also quite nice and the campain-battlereport Lost and Damned vs. Black Templars also was quite inspirational.
I agree with Raptors! 40k has really gone down the ********! I am SICK of the themes! First spacemarines take up about 4 issues, then Black Templar (let's face it they are ALSO space Marines) take up the next 4 issues!!! next up is Tau... I do like and occationally play tau, but COMMON!!! They can't just make WD a THEME mag for the upcomming armys! It just seems that the only thing they want is do one big commercial, which makes me SICK! Making me buy LESS GW products! WE WANT FAT BLOKE!!!

i like the way it is. I play 40k, but i like all the GW fluff, so i read all the bits n peices in there, im big fan of fantasy novels, so the stuff on the dwarfs is cool, and the article a couple of months back about gnoblars was great, full of crazy greenskined humour.
Just because you dont play a certain game, dosent mean they should remove it. LOTR is the 3rd pillar, therfore it deserves all the attention the other games get.
Every month something new comes along, so they focus on that, which is fair enough. I enjoy reading all the new stuff anyway.
what i think was being said was that it shouldnt get more preference over the games sections just because sales arent doing well for GW, i dont want to start an argument about GW on this thread but i do feel there sales tactics are a little transparnt at times and that makes me un-comfortable.Originally Posted by darqueknight
what i meant in my origenal post is there isnt enough fluf or BR's i to love to read some of the new stuff but it wouldnt hurt to see some fluff about something other than what there trying to sell that month. its just that for about 3 monthes before they go on sale and and 3 months after they just go nuts on there new product and for me it actually puts me of buying it.
I see what you mean, but to be honest i dont mind the sales pitch in WD, as it gives you all the info you need about that race. WD isnt like a real magazine, it dosent really lose its relevence like other mags, you can come back to the same issue month after month, and still find intresting articles. e.g. if in a couple of months time you start playing WFB, then you already have a lot of info on the subject, just flick through the old WD's.
I look at WD as less of a magazine and more of an update to the whole hobby, its not like a PC mag, or good housekeeping, it dosent go out of date after the month it came out.
i couldnt agree with you more i think white dwarf on the whole is great and i am always flicking back through them for paint tips or to recall some background fluff.Originally Posted by darqueknight
i just really feel that recently there isnt enough of the good stuff versus the sales cack especially in the 4ok i mean if you look at this monthes there are about 20 pages each on the other two games and about 10 for 40k and most of them are about either who wonderful eavy metal black templars are or about some ex golden deamon winner and how wonderfull her paintig is, actually very little in there about good quality paint tips compared to the rest (i did say very little not non before anyone posts saying about the face painting and stuff)
i actually like looking at the pics, maybe not the eavy metql ones so much, but def the golden demon ones, gives me all sorts of ideas. Ive not got this months yet, so cant comment, but us 40k'ers have had it pretty good recently, not only have we got a shiny new rule book, but a whole new chapter, and next month (hopfully) we will have a new tau codex, these things happen in cycles, wheat and the chaff so to speak....

maybe i am being greedy but i feel that when paul sawyer and even the last editor to some watered down degree gave us loads of BR's and loads of fluff on all kinds of armys and spiecies which i loved. obviously its my preference but i dont think anyone can seriously denie that we have not had an issue for a whiike now that has had loads of backgroung (well reaserched and thought out)about anything other than what is being sold at the time.
to sum up i prefer how the 40k section used to be set out and in fact WD as a whole. to how it is now, and i dont think anyone can argue that it has changed, its just what is your preference.
