Ok. This is a story from a Warp Spider Exarch's perspective. It takes place in the middle of the first battle of the Rhana Dandra (The final war against Chaos for all you non-eldar players out there). It goes on after that point. Basically its just a battle scene from a movie that doesnt exist written down. there are a few breaks and such, but its just for your amusement. i know its long, but stick with it. ive got another 3 parts coming up too.
The Rhana Dandra: Part 1
I felt as if the world was in slow motion when I saw them fight. Karandras was a more efficient killer than I could have ever imagined. Jain Zar was as swift as the wind. Baharroth was bringing doom to countless mon-keigh. Maugan Ra could incinerate the biggest of their crude tanks with a single shot of his mighty Maugetar. Fuegan was stronger than 1,000 Wraithlords. Asurmen was the best swordsman I had ever seen. And leading them was a sight to behold, the Avatar of Kaela Mensha Khaine. The incarnation of the God of War. It was incredible. It’s sword, the Wailing Doom, was a glowing, massive symbol of death. Ah, the havoc it wreaked on the mon-keigh traitors. And here I was, nothing more than an Exarch of the Warp Spider Aspect. I once thought myself strong, but seeing the Phoenix Lords battle with the Avatar leading them made me feel as if I was a child. But the love of war they instilled in me.
It was the Rhana Dandra. The final battle against Chaos. It is unclear whether we shall win this conflict, or become extinct. Not even Eldrad could foresee it. Perhaps it is better that we not know the fate that awaits us. Perhaps we face doom. If we had known that this would be the end of the Eldar, we would not have fought with such great strength and pride. But maybe we will win this. Maybe we shall overcome the Great Destroyer. We WILL succeed. We WILL live on, and rule the universe as we did once before. But now I must focus my thoughts on the present, not the future. “Onward my brothers, we will take the tower to the right! I cried out to my squad. They charged their generators, and we left this world, taking to the Warp. “Return on my command! Ready, One…Two…Three…Fo-Now!. We returned, standing in a ruined tower. Ah, we had landed just behind a squad of the Traitor Mon-keigh. They were firing upon our ranks with crudely made heavy weapons. I crept up behind one, slitting his throat with my blade, and aiming my Death Spinner, tore another 2 apart with the powers of the Warp. My squad took care of the others.
“Brethren, we will take to the rank of thickly armored mon-keigh there! I pointed to a squad of Terminators that were about to come upon a rank of Dire Avengers that were currently combatting a squad of hideously deformed mutants. “Go now, I shall meet you there, there is no time!. I took the Warp, and my stomach lurched, it still made me feel sick, but I had managed to tune it out. I landed right in front of one of the crudely armored, bulky Traitors. It took a clumsy swing at me with a fist that would have easily shattered my skull. I ducked beneath and sliced at an opening in the armor. A cry of pain rung out through his large helmet. I lifted my blade and finished him off. Blood spattered all over my armor. I had just cleaned it too. I saw one of the Terminators aim his gun at one of my men and fire…the look of my comrade and student yell out in agony and fall to the ground, a huddled mass, instilled rage in my soul. I bellowed out in anguish and leaped out, crashing down on the enemy and dropping my blades. Tearing his arms off with my bare hands. I then crushed his skull with a swift blow. I turned my attention to the heavily armored Traitor to my right. I kicked him back and tore him apart with my Death Spinner. Once the squad was destroyed, I turned to my own. 2 had been killed.
“Avenge their deaths my students. Make the mon-keigh pay. I said with bloodlust. They seemed to agree as they immediately set their sights on an approaching tank. It was one of the transports. “We have to stop that tank from deploying whoever is inside of it! one of my comrades yelled. “Yes, go now! I agreed. We turned our generators on and sped toward the tank. I landed on top of it. I sliced off the weapon that was firing shells into our ranks. Then I cut open the hatch and threw a grenade inside. “Warp off the tank, now! I yelled to my brethren. We took to the Warp. As I landed several meters away from the tank, I saw it explode, a mixture of metal and blood. We gathered together again behind the melted mass of the tank as a large explosion crashed against where we had been standing.
I looked up behind the tank. Our forces were advancing. Then something horrific happened. A large dark figure, bearing the skulls of Eldar on spikes sticking out of its armor. It was a hideous being. I now recognized him. It was the lord of Chaos. Abbadon was his name. The Scourge. The Despoiler. And behind him lumbered the most hideous creature I had ever seen. A Chaos God. Bloodthirster. The Greater Daemon of Khorne. It was huge and terrifying. Along with the lord and abomination came a massive wave of Khorne Berserkers. They were lightly armored insane Traitor Marines bearing pistols and axes. They were crude soldiers, but effective The Farseer to my right ordered a wave of Striking Scorpions to combat them head on. A Support Weapon with its crew fired the Earthshaker Cannon, causing the Berserkers to stumble and trip. At that time, the Striking Scorpion leapt forward. Firing mandiblasters and pistols at them, and cleaving with their chainswords, the Berserkers were being slaughtered as soon as they had come. It was a sight to behold. As the Khorne Berserkers were either dead or fleeing, cries of victory sprung out amongst the Scorpions.
Then they were extinguished. The Daemon known as Bloodthirster flew down upon them and with one sweep of his sword, 5 Scorpions were murdered. With another, 3 more. The Scorpions fell back. The Avatar and the Phoenix Lords saw the threat. They met it with utter malice. The Avatar leaped toward Bloodthirster and swung the Wailing Doom, cutting off one of Bloodthirster’s wings. He punched Bloodthirster in the chest, then took another swing with the Doom. The Daemon dodged it this time, and returned with a blow of its own on the side of the Incarnation of a God. It bellowed out and slashed at the Daemon, hitting home on its leg. The Daemon cried out, acidic blood spraying everywhere, causing Traitors and Eldar alike to fall. The Avatar thrusted its sword into the Daemons heart. Crying out with one last scream, it fell to the ground. The Avatar held its side in pain.
The Phoenix Lords saw Abbadon advance on the Avatar, as if to finish it off while it was in pain. He had no honor, the Despoiler. Karandras leapt upon him and swung his sword, missing. Abbadon swiped with his claw and hit Karandras in the side. Karandras fell back. We were dealing with an enemy clearly more powerful than we thought. Asurmen then charged forth and swung the Sword of Asur. This blow hit, Abbadon yelled out in rage and shot Asurmen with his storm bolter. Asurmen aimed his twin linked shuriken catapults and returned the favor. Then he fell back as well. Jain Zar leapt forward with incredible grace and swung her Executioner at Abbadon. It hit his gun, chopping it in half. He took the half and threw it at Jain Zar, she batted it away with her blade. She then swung again and Abbadon blocked it with his claw. Then he swept it at Jain, who jumped over it and shot her Silent Death at Abbadon, who tore it apart and swung at Jain again. It hit Jain in the face, knocking her down. Abbadon raised his claw to eliminate Jain Zar, but Fuegan swung his Fire Axe at Abbadon, who was wounded as it was. This sent Abbadon sprawling to the ground. Then he clambered back up to his feet and pulled out a pistol he had hidden on his side, shooting Fuegan in the center of his helmet, Fuegan was stunned, but remained standing. Then Abbadon charged at Fuegan, raising his claw. Nobody was there to save Fuegan. Then a large blast, and a large laser hit Abbadon right in his chest, sending him flying. I looked over in astonishment, it was Maugan Ra. Abbadon was bleeding badly now. He looked over at Maugan Ra, and looked with disgust. Then the Avatar, who had recovered by now, raised the Wailing Doom, to finish off Abbadon. He then sprang to his feet, and jumped onto a Traitor tank that had passed by. He looked up at the Avatar and spat. “I’ll be back. I looked over at my squad. They had also been entranced by the glorious fight that had just taken place.
But the battle still wasn’t over. It had only been put on hold. It seemed the entire battle had stood still to spectate the bitter feud. The Traitors seemed that any morale they still had dissolved. Then cries of victory were so loud they drowned out the loudest explosions. “Onward my brethren! The battle will be ours! cried out the Fire Dragon Lord, Fuegan. We charged. “It shall be, I said to my squad, “We must go forth with our allies and teach the Traitors that we are a force to be reckoned with, show them the swift death of the Eldar! We sprang forth and aimed Death Spinners at anything we could see. We shot and tore them apart with the awesome power of the Warp. We were rampaging and destroying anything evil in sight. The battle was ours. Chaos was running. The most vile and savage Traitors were retreating. Then as they reached the top of the hill, they stopped. We were confused but kept charging. Then they looked at us with horrific smiles and turned, ready to defend their position. But we outnumbered them 3 to 1, and being outnumbered by thousands of Eldar is suicidal.
Then I saw why as I reached the top of the hill. There were drop ships, Eldar drop ships. But they were covered in blades, and black. It was the pirates, the Eldar Traitors, the Dark Eldar. There were countless numbers of them, like a black wave. The sky was black with the Ravagers. But we continued onward. We crashed against the allied forces of Traitors. We fought and fought, killing countless numbers of them, but it didn’t even make a dent in their forces. For every 5 of them killed, 1 of ours were killed. And that was a not a successful ratio. “Do you see that squad of Incubi to my left? I asked my squad. They nodded. “They pose the biggest threat to our support weapons. We must eliminate them before they do anything that could cripple our army. I said with malice. Even as I talked they were tearing through Eldar with their many blades. “Go now! We dissolved into the Warp, seeing the carnage from a much higher viewpoint, it looked hopeless for us, the traitorous Eldar were uncountable. We returned to the physical world and ambushed the Incubi. We shot our Death Spinners into their swirling horde of blades and killed them all. They writhed in pain as they died. It was no less than they deserved, they are cruel and maniacal, who take their captives and torture them, merely for sick glee. At least our executions are quick and painless.
Then we turned our attention to a Haemonculus accompanied by a squad of Dark Eldar. “Theres too many of them, retreat to the Warp and we’ll meet back behind the front lines! Our squad returned to the Warp, but 1 was brought down by a Splinter Rifle to the head. We met back at a scorched tree. “There is far too many Traitors to deal with by ourselves. We will climb onto a Wave Serpent. We will ride that into their ranks and shoot the foul Traitors as we fly by, then, as the Wave Serpent retreats, we will return to the Warp, clear? I said with a frantic, worried voice. “Yes. My men knew that it was a close to suicidal mission. A Wave Serpent was just coming toward the front lines. “There! We jumped onto it. It swept into the hordes of enemies. The blades running across the sides of the transport sliced the Traitors in half. We shot our Death Spinners at them. They fired hails of Splinter Rifle shells at us. They were terrible shots.
But then a Haemonculus jumped aboard. The sight of it alone staring at you in the eye was enough to make you break down and scream. I aimed my Death Spinner at it but then it shot it. It exploded in my hand. I cursed as I tried to tune out the pain. He grinned sadistically as he thrusted a blade into my allies stomach. He then looked at me and grinned the same way. He stabbed my chest, where my heart should have been, but my heart was on the right side of my chest, a birth defect. I looked at him as he looked back at me with astonishment and fear. I thrusted my power blade into his neck, giving him the quick, painless death he didn’t deserve. I looked at my squad, who looked back at me with pity and despair. “Go on with the plan. I managed to get out through clenched teeth. They hesitated, but Aspect Warriors have been taught to do whatever their Exarch tells them. They disappeared into the Warp. I collapsed after they were gone, not wanting to let them see my pain. Then my life flashed before my eyes. I remember nothing but hard times. Nothing but sorrow for the fallen, hatred for my enemies, and anger at myself. I would not let my children experience the same life I did. I stood up. The pain in my chest was not enough to stop me from achieving my goal. I would not fail my people. I leapt off the Wave Serpent.
I set my sights on a Traitor transport. I disappeared into the Warp and reappeared on the transport. I staggered back as I returned to the world, but was too determined to stop. I pulled out a grenade and threw it onto the deck. Then disappeared back into the Warp. That was one of my favorite tactics, anti-vehicle hit and runs. I then landed next to the Avatar. I fell to my knees, doubling over in pain. I looked over at the Avatar, it was slaughtering some Incubi. Between a sword swing it looked at me and picked me up off my knees, placing me on my feet. I looked at the Avatar with a sense of awe. Only the Incarnation of Kaela Mensha Khaine itself could be such an unstoppable machine and so compassionate towards its followers. I assisted it in its strife against the Incubi. Fighting with it was more honor than I could have ever imagined. Suddenly the pain in my chest was gone. The Avatar had saved my life.
I then looked for my squad amongst our ranks. I saw them. They were currently fending off from a wave of Ravagers. I dissolved into the Warp and met them again. One of my students, Yanivel, looked at me with astonishment as he shot a Ravager with his Death Spinner, “You made it sir! Bravo! I looked at him as I kicked a Ravager down and stabbed him, “I am lucky to count myself alive Yanivel, its no reason to cheer me on. He understood, I could tell by his silence. Yanivel was one of my younger trainees, but he is one of the most experienced Eldar on Biel-tan. He just finished his training as an Aspect Warrior and will begin his training as a Warlock after the battle.
I counted my squad, only 4 were left not including me. “The Traitors are putting up a good fight, but I believe we can defeat them. I lied. We were highly outnumbered. They knew it too. “We have to assassinate their Haemonculi, they are the ones commanding the army, there is a Haemonculus towards the southern break in the valley. We will take the Warp to him, kill him, and quickly warp away, we have to eliminate the Haemonculi, go, now! I lurched forward with a sickly feel as I entered the Warp. We landed behind the Haemonculus and I stabbed him in the back. I stabbed him again, and again, and again. “Sir! One of my students cried out. I was in a state of rage, they are cruel, evil, menacing, maniacal, twisted fiends. “I don’t know what came over me. We entered the Warp again. They followed me through the twisting Webway. We landed behind a large rock. “Good, now we need to kill another. To the right, there is one assaulting a Defender squad. We need to kill him now, go! We entered the Warp, and landed in front of him. He looked at me with fear, then smiled the same way to other Haemonculus did. I knew what to do this time. He lunged forward with his blade. I kicked it out of his hand, punched him straight and the jaw, and stabbed him in the side. He will die, but he will suffer. “Back to the Warp!. We disappeared into the Warp.
The Traitors were falling back to their drop ships. “Reapers! The drop ships! I heard Maugan Ra call to his elite Dark Reapers. They aimed their Reaper Cannons at the drop ships and with unerring accuracy and destroyed two. A squad of Warwalkers destroyed 4 more. Then a Wraithlord carefully aimed its Star Cannon and obliterated one just as it started being boarded. The lucky Traitors managed to clamber aboard the last 5 remaining, leaving their others behind to fight against us alone. We killed slaughtered them all. Asurmen, the Hand of Asuryan, and the first Phoenix Lord, stood upon the tallest rock and looked upon the remnants of the army. “Swordwind! We are victorious today! We have defeated the traitors of the mon-keigh and our own traitors! We defeated Abbadon the Despoiler! He will surely be back, but this battle is ours! This battle would not have been one if each and every one of you had not done your duty! For Alaitoc, for Ulthwe, for Saim-hann, for Iyanden, but most of all, for Biel-tan! Cheers rung out across the army. We had won. But the Rhana Dandra was not over yet. And we had surely not faced the worst Abbadon can throw at us. But today, we are alive. Today, we are victorious. Today, we are the Eldar. Praise Kaela Mensha Khaine.
whaddya think? 1 to 10 scale. ill be putting out some more, so i hope you like those if you didnt like this.
I've never thought of Warp Spiders like that before, and I've never seen a story written from their perspective.
One correction though, Maugan Ra's got a shuriken cannon. Not a laser. It shoots shurikens.
How come the Warp Spiders ain't got a pheonix lord? Damn you GW...
If a tree falls in the forest, and it lands on a mime, does anyone care?
nice apart from a couple of things 1. khorne berzerkers dont run away 2. what about the eldar rangers why were they left out?(go alaitoc) 3. abaddon would of decimated the pheonix lords in close combat i mean hes got the talon of horus with an integral combi bolter and drach'nyen which would give any thing it scratches a one way trip to an eternity of pain. but still one awesome story
I noticed something crucial missing- this is, after all the Rhana Dandra. Where are the C'tan? Where are their ageless Necrontyr thralls? You'd the most ancient menace the galaxy has ever faced would have some part in its end.
Si em, tow en can de lach.
Tak! Tak! Tak ah wan, Tak a lah!
Mi tow, can de lach.
Mi him, en tow.
sorry about that i was on vacation for quite some time over winter break, and im now ready to answer all your questions. for deceiver, the Ctan will play a crucial role against the eldar in the end. for heretik, i had the khorne berserkers run (i do realize that they wouldnt normally run) to symbolize the incredible onslaught of the fighting biel tan strike force, fighting for their race that faces a danger more terrible than their war against She Who Thirsts (an evil eldar threat). about the rangers, i did not feel that they would have played a big enough role in the beginning of the war, as that they are still being called from the exile that they normally spend their lives in (read Craftworld Eldar, the Alaitoc section). And about abbadon, he still has a part to play in this, but i will disagree that abbadon could kill all the eldar Phoenix Lords AND the incarnation of a god against him at the same time (youve highly underestimated their power, these are the founders of the Aspect Shrines). and for long shot, i will be sure to pump out some more of these, and the Maugan's laser shot was a mistake on my shot, sorry about that.
