Heavily armored footsteps echoed in the hall as the marine ran.
"Honorable Master, sir!" saluted the marine.
Lachlan Danaan slowly turned around, his dark face lit slightly from the outside. He was rather old, signified by his skin. This was a common trait among the Liberty's Vanguard, resulting from a mutation in the melanchrome zygote. This results in a darkening of the skin as the marine aged.
"Yes?" asked Danaan calmly.
"Sir," the marine said breathlessly, "we are recieving a comms-signal from orbit. It is the Dark Angels."
"Hmm," Danaan muttered, "patch it through."
"Sir!" The marine went over to the nearest panel and pushed a button.
A video screen flickered to life, "Lachlan Danaan, I presume?" asked the dark green marine that appeared.
"Indeed. With whom am I speaking?" asked Danaan.
"I am Captain Adrian MalSeraph of the Dark Angels Third Company, Honorable Master," replied the marine. "First and foremost, I would like to apologize for my collegues actions in our previous encounter."
"Apology accepted," said Danaan, looking directly into MalSeraph's face. He noted how young MalSeraph looked. He was especially curious how someone so young had already risen to the rank of Captain of a Battle Company. Danaan put these thoughts aside.
"But that is not the real reason you have called upon me," said Danaan sagely.
"You are indeed wise. Yes, I have called you for assistance. My company was ordered to investigate an apostate inquisitor. Normally, the Ordo Hereticus would handle this but my company was closer. Besides, we are en route to pick up an Ordo Hereticus Inquisitor that is nearby. Generally, the Dark Angels do not ally themselves with others, but Supreme Grand Master Azrael knows of the power that an Inquisitor can call upon and he approved. I am told your chapter has formidable warriors."
"I am also sure that you have been told that the Liberty's Vanguard does not ally itself with others, as well," said Danaan, still calm, "especially dogs of the Imperium, such as yourself."
"Yes, I was told that, as well, but I called upon your chapter because we have heard that the apostate Inquisitor has persuaded a fighting company of Black Templars to fight with him. You see, I was also told that you chapter has a certain...dislike...for the Black Templars," MalSeraph lilted.
He touched a nerve "You are wise yourself, good Captain. Fine, I and some of my chapter shall accompany you. Should you be lying to us, my chapter shall fall upon your company with full force." said Danaan quietly.
MalSeraph grinned. "It's settled then. We shall wait in orbit." The screen went black.
"Sir?" said the marine, still in the room. "What are your orders?"
"Ready the men," demanded Danaan, "we leave immediately.. And don't forget to inform the men that we will be fighting the Templars."
