Just a few little things.
I ran a test army similar to this. Used a 5 packs of warhounds instead of heard because of the lower LD. That way they would fail the LD test and generate spawns. I highly recommend converting/making your own spawns. I made 12 outta sprue and bits from my Beast Heard boxes.
For your big heards (sometimes called Battle Heards) you will want to field 8 (give or take 1) gors and around 12 ungors. I always try to field heards that start with 21 pts. That means in the first round of shooting they'd have to take 5, instead of 4, for that panic.
Some people say don't bother putting a standard in with the heads, some people do. Biggest argument against is, with the heard's low leadership they'll be more likely to break and just give up 100 vic pts. The biggest for, seeing how the heard can only rank up +2 they need that extra for static combat resolution.
Most everyone will agree that the a champ is well worth the points, +1 Attack, +1 LD, +1 Str... There aren't magic items that are near that good for the pts. And musicians, I never leave home with out'm... unless they're in the ambushing party...
Well there certainly should be a lot of spawns wandering around the board! give the ambushing herds Foe Renders for that extra Ld.
The pestigor, Dogres and giant are a HUGE point sink into just 3 units, you will have to be careful with these, and make sure they dont get ganged up on. Then again i suppose the list doesnt look as hard on paper as it actually is because of the spawning potential.
Another possible problem, you need a lot of herd boxes to get all those ungor... unless you just use gor as ungor, then it will be a bit easier to field.
Yeah, I realise that I'll have a problem getting my hands on that many ungors so I plan to maybe buy a box of zombies/skeletons and build them with some beastmen parts mixed in (e.g. zombie body + skeleton arm + ungor/gor head). This is to represent the ungors being mutated into spawns by morghur during the battle. I think this would also go nicely with the Nurgle and fear/terror theme.
Thats quite a cool idea. Hadnt thought of that option before for ungors. And it fits the fluff perfectly. Dont forget to grab a load of 50m bases for spawns too.
Thanks! I'm actually still trying to work out how to make loads of spawns.
I'm curious to know how you mangaged to make 12 spawns out of sprue and beastman box bits, Burnanation
Well spawns can look like whatever you like, they are just a random mas of stuff... and they dont need to be huge, so long as they are on the right sized base (i think its 50mm...)
As for th ungor, ive just thought sizing may be a problem, zombies and skellies are quite a bit smaller than the beastmen models, Then again, they are being mutated, so i guess it will look fine however they go together lol.
A Chaos Spawn is a champion who has been given a few to many gifts from the gods. I always pictured it as a huge blob of arms and tentacles and such... well here's 4 models on their way to becoming spawns.
The first one is melted sprue. Next is one with attached arms.
Black one is all primed. The next is starting to be painted.
Well I'm off to work! see ya
