Ok so im going to start off saying my first game of warhammer was 2 days ago . . . i am proxying everything to see what i want beforehand(friends are ok with this)
I started with beastman because: Dwarf, Warriors of Chaos, Skaven, High Elfs, and Zombies or something undead was already taken.
So here is my 2k Beastman army
Doombull as general w/ heavy armour
Sword of Swift Slaying
Talisman of Preservation (thinking of putting the enemy re rolls wounds armor)
Potion of Toughness
Gorebull W/ heavy armour
Talisman of Endurance
Golden Sigil Sword
2x10 Gor Herd fully loaded with 2nd weapon (1x10 for ambush)
2x10 Bestigor Herd fully loaded (1x10 for ambush)
1unit of 15 Sons of Ghorros Fully loaded
2units of 7 harpies W/ scout
I know there are a better way of playing beastman . . . ive tried with bray shamans too but i did not like it so much . . . so tear it apart and let me know what im doing wrong.
I destroyed a WoC army yesterday with this army cause i got a great ambush right behind them with 2, 2x5 armies . . . also question about beastman ambush . . . do you roll a D6 per ambushing army or 1 for all of them . . .
Honestly, I would try and make room for a BSB. They are way more worth it for beastmen because it also allows re rolls for primal fury.
I have been told that to optimize Bestigors one should run them 6 wide for more frontage. So maybe a unit of 24 or 2 units of 12 if you are hellbent on them ambushing.
I think that for 15 points somebody should have the Gnarled Hide.
Overall good list but a lot of your units are a bit small. This combined with no BSB could cause you some trouble with shooty armies. For instance, Dark Elves will cause 4 wounds to your gors fairly easily, then with a ld 7 check you basically have a 50/50 chance of them staying on the table.
I know you had some nice ambushing against that WoC, but a choice to fix this would be 24 Bestigors in a unit with the BSB in it. Then a unit of 30 gors and ambush 10. Also will save you on the cost of commands assuming those are included in "fully loaded".
I don't want you to stray too far from your original ideas, so maybe just keep playing with the list you have and slowly make these changes as you see fit or run into problems.
Must have BSB, that needs to be the first thing in every list for Beastmen. Put it on a Bull with Heavy Armor, Shield and Gnarled Hide, enjoy his sexiness. You can also slap a Ward on him if you want, he won't get Look Out Sir unless he's with Minotaurs and he will be shot by Cannons and such.
Honestly you need some better Magic Defense, got not so much right now. A great Bray Shaman is really good for Beastmen, many useful items. You can pair him with a Beastlord for the Ld, I just think Magic Defense trumps killing power. Specific items you want in most any list are Hagtree Fetish and Chalice of Dark Rain.
Gor units need to be pumped up. T4 is their only defense, if they're meant to Ambush a small unit is fine but for non Ambush you want at least 30.
In my experience Bestigors kind of suck. I'd just spam more Gors and support them with characters and chariots. Chariots are Core for you and stupid cheap, I'd take at least 1 per fighting block. Minos also offer hitting power, as do Monsters.
Centigors are pretty bad as well, I'd forget these and go with more Gors or hitty units. Also I'm pretty sure you need to run Ghorros to make them his sons, don't see him listed.
Harpies can be 5 man, they'll still win against war machines and small shooting units. I'd almost like 3 units because they're so damn good.
Slugtongue is situationally amazing, other times he's trash. I like him because war machines are very popular and he scares them.
Just my thoughts, sorry if that tears down your army a bit. You can maybe get away with just Slugtongue as a Wizard until 2500, but then a Lvl4 becomes a must have. I still favor a Beast Lord because he's cheaper, HeroHammer doesn't work to well anymore and your Doombull is begging to be Cannon'd. Try to add some saturation for war machines such as Monsters, Chariots, Minos, that kind of stuff. And certainly bring more Gors to the table, they're very good with a General and BSB nearby and some support.
Oh no this is very helpful . . . i am bouncing around to different armies because of the "shooty" stuff . . . i am against dwarfs, skaven, high elfs, and 2 more that arent shooty
so any and all help is nice . . . i actually just proxied a lizardmen and orcs and goblins army to test out
I think Beastmen pair well with heavy shooting builds, Chalice can buy you a whole turn sometimes. Your Movement is high and T4 is good against Handguns/Bows especially if you use terrain. Harpies gobble up war machines and you have Ambush too, although that's unreliable and I don't favor it.
