Hey, all. I just ought myself three boxes of beast herds today and I've suddenly come to a dilemma. I don't know whether I should give them hand weapons and shields or two hand weapons. The way I've run them in the past is two groups of normally deployed beast herds with shields, and an ambushing unit with two hand weapons. Also, should I give each unit full command? I thought that perhaps I could just run them with fewer models if I don't want command, but I'm just not sure.
Thanks for any help anyone responds with, I want to get biulding as soon as possible.
Never mind, I read along and found my answer in another thread: always use two hand weapons and no shields on ungor.
Oh wait, I still need to know, command or no command?
The Command issue is up to you. Foe Renders and Musicians are always useful. The only one that generally gets debated is the Standard Bearer. Tbh, you may aswell make them (i don't use them but still made the models)
Well, you're going to have a ton of left over Gors, so making the Standard won't hurt....
Though there's a few opinions floating around, mine is pretty simple - What do you want the Herd to do? If it's a nice big herd 16 or more strong, taking the enemy head on, then full command it is. This unit is trying to WIN combat, and everything helps. Not having a banner just in case you give away points is silly to me, becuase you could be charging into a losing combat without it, and GUANTEED to give the points for the unit itself.
If it's a smallish support hed though, Foerender and/or Muso is what you do. These units will either Ambush, protect flanks, or target weaker enemy troops, like SKermishers, Fast Cav, Shooters, whatever they can beat with kills alone. Since you're targeting the enemies weakspots, the risk of the Banner VP's isn't worth it, just in case you're out manouvered.
Whatever a Herd's role, I ALWAYS have a foe render though - the stat increases he gets are just too worth it - A, LD and S, all very nice.
