Thread: Warhammer Armies: Beastmen (BoC 6.5)

  1. #31

I wasn't really thinking "in tune" so much as "warping the land to their will." Morghur has an example of this. Trees and plan life grow faces that scream out in agony and are so scary enemy units need to take fear checks to enter woods and the trees attack them if they are inside.

I looked over the book, and there wasn't anything that jumped out at me as being crazy. Of course points costs will have to be tested to make sure they are accurate, but it seems fine to me. I'd like to see weapon option on the scout unit, namely great weapons like shades. Myabe more rare choices other than DO and spawns?

Overall the biggest flaw the the BoC book is the fact that there are only three units that are really any good, Warhounds, Beast Herds, and Minotaurs. With slight fixes like giving Beastigors more options, Centigors gaining fast cav, and adding in a scout and flying unit I hope to see more variety.

    !!!

Ive just had (what I think is) an Amazing spark of inspiration!

(dont you DARE steal this on GW! )

Basically, as BoC never had access to Enchanted Items before, that leaves a whole section of magic items wide open.. so what to fill it with?

    Brayhorns!

Basically... If your army general has the Ambush special rule then he MAY select a brayhorn from the BoC magic item list. Standard brayhorn is either free of 5pts (i need to look at how it will afect the magic pts limit and choice of selecting other items etc)

    Ideas for Horns here please!

PS... this horn needs a name...

    "Megahorn" 100pts
The General may sound the Brayhorn at the end of the enemy’s turn.

Also, finally got around to re-doing this item:
    Staff of Darkoth 50 pts
Magic Weapon; Counts as a Braystaff.
Bound Spell, Power Level 5. Target Beast unit within 12” of the caster may immediately make it’s normal move, exactly like in the movement phase, which may be a charge, in which case all the normal rules for a charge apply.

    EDIT

Phew, this is turning into a big post! apologies lol, but i have a lot of ideas coming today.

Is this going onto the boarderline of breaking the army?:

    Brayhorns
Army General only, and only if he has the Ambush special rule. Different Brayhorns may be combined, stacking their effects.

(For example, Masterful Brayhorn of the Hunt Call – 100pts)

    Brayhorn Free

Horn of the Call 10 pts
On the turn the Brayhorn is sounded, all ambushing units gain +1 Leadership until the end of the turn.

Horn of the Hunt 20 pts
On the turn the Brayhorn is sounded, all ambushing units gain +2 Leadership until the end of the turn.

Horn of the Wild 30 pts
Any ambushing unit may re-roll a single failed Leadership test for arriving on to the battlefield.

    Masterful horn 70pts
The General may sound the Brayhorn at the end of an enemy’s turn rather than at the start of the Beast turn.

    Horn of Inspiration (or something)
Brayhorn. Upon sounding the horn all fleeing units automatically rally.

    Horn of Terror
Brayhorn. Upon sounding the horn all enemy units are at -1 Ld for 1 turn.

I think there are lots of possibilities here that don't necessarily involve ambushing.

So would these horns cut into a magic item allowance or be a special "ambushing general item only" type thing?
No, I don't have any wool.

Im currently undecided there. At first i thought ''cut into magic item allowance'' but then looking at it.. it didnt seem right to do that.

FC, the issue with other types of Horn is that rather large problems arise in their wording. Those ones may have to be fluffed into magic items somehow..

Something to think about would be just having one +1 leadership horn that can be stacked up to a maximum of X times. It wouldn't seem right to have the general spend all his magic items allowance on a one time use item and then be naked other than standard options for the rest of the game, although I do think there should be some sort of drawback, such as taking a special brayhorn reducing your Magic Items allowance by a set amount or proportional amount. Maybe some items with "Can't be taken if the general has a special brayhorn"? Maybe that's getting too complicated...

yeah... now you see my thought conflicts.. lol

Just an idea for the naming of the horns...

Instead of having the items be horns themselves, have the horn be standard and let the horn be marked by chaos runes, or inscriptions, etc. This way it could also make more sense that you're not paying for the horn, but inscriptions on the horn that give it special abilities. It makes more logical sense that way if you choose to leave magic items allowance separate from the horn.

I also saw an experimental list using "lesser" and "greater" marks of the gods. Perhaps the inscriptions could be a variant of this idea?

Sounds like a good and workable idea. Hmm.. i could even Mark the Horns.. what would be the effects of a Tze, Kh, Nur and Sla mark on an ambush you reckon...?
