Just have a quick question here: is there any restrictions on the formation of a unit when it enters play through ambush?
For instance could you take a 30 man strong unit let it ambush in a 1 wide, 30 deep formation? as long as the unit is touching the board edge. If you look at the return from pursuit rules (the rules used for ambushers to enter play) you will see units are placed on the board touching the edge they left the table from (or for ambushers the unit is placed touching anywhere on the edge you rolled).
If they return from pursuit then I think that they should return in the same formation they were before they left the table.
About units that come from ambush, I don't think there is any restrictiions about their formation.
Ok in that case you can pretty much insure a charge right, I mean if you were to place 20-30 gors in a single line with one touching the table edge, the one in front would be somting like 10-15 inches in on the board before movement...
I haven't got the rules for ambush in front of me, but if it's anything like re-entering from pursuit you will have missed the chance to declare charges. Regardless, you'll have no ranks and only 3 attacks so you'll most likely loose combat and break without steadfast....so I wouldn't recommend it I don't think
I believe that you always need to be 5 wide for infantry. or at the very least, for deployment.
Plus even if you had this formation, most of your troops would not be on the table after ambush.
None of those reasons: you can't be further away from the board edge than double your M value. So with M=5, the furthest trooper should have the farthest edge of his base at 10 inches from the side...Even in a single column formation.
stop commenting on threads over a month old, if you want to comment that badly then create your own threads like, i keep seeing new threads, except they aren really new just a month or so old and you brough them up to the front.
on the bright side your right about that formation, but if you can chooce formation you could come 10 wide behind 10 archers say and a good shot there lol
