Hey all, I'm new to beastmen (and fantasy in general). I'm intrigued by Slugtongue and I wanted to know if anyone uses him and if so, how? If not, why not?
I don't use him, for several reasons:
1. Limited Lore choices. This is actually his biggest problem - Lore of Death is good if you have a big selection of spells and a Wizard that doesn't mind getting close to people, and while Sluggie has Regen, he doesn't fill either requirement particularly well. Lore of the Wild is arguably the worst Lore in the game, so it goes without saying that you don't want to use it.
2. Expensive. Sure, he has nice perks in Regeneration (useful for keeping him alive), Poison (mostly worthless since he only attacks once and can't punch through any armor), and Curse of the Famine-Fiend (hit-or-miss), but 190 points is a lot of clams to plunk down, especially with an army like Beastmen that spends a lot of Hero points on important things like the Beast Banner Battle Standard-Bearer or the crowd of Shamans around the Herdstone or a Gorebull bodyguard for a Doombull.
3. Questionable utility. You're paying a bunch of points for perks you may or may not see affect gameplay in Curse and Regen. People could be packing fire, or simply choose to ignore Sluggie and put his unit to flight (because he sure as heck isn't going to do much other than dying if you run him solo). Curse of the Famine-Fiend is a gamble at best as well. Simply put, he doesn't even give you all that much bang for the buck.

I also have stopped using him simply because of the reasons above, but, when I did use him I was lucky as I put a Thundertusk onto 1 wound and in another killed an hero. But other times the curse has been useless. AVOID
