When does a Dragon Ogre Shaggoth with a great weapon and the Mark of Slaanesh strike and why?
He always strikes first, even though you have a great weapon. If he goes into combat with someone that has strike first ability aswell (such as innocence lost with lahmian vampires), you check who was the more Initiative. If you have equal Initiative, you roll D6's, highest gets to strike first.
I knew the rules for the Mark of Slaanesh and the rules for great weapons but I didn't find any notes as to who overrules whom. Where is it?Originally posted by strewart@Oct 26 2004, 01:44
Why? Because thats what the MoS does. It overrides the great weapon striking last.
The second part of WiCkEdRocks posting (rolling a dice to break ties) where also obvious, if I had known that the Mark of Slaanesh overrules the great weapon, as it is standard if both have the first-strike capability.
I am dead sure that the 'strike first' rule completely negates the 'strike last' rule, I don't know where in the rulebook that is, however.
It was clarified in a FAQ when the Helm of Many Eyes was questioned, IIRC.
And for the record, anything a shaggoth can do a giant can do the same or better for nearly 100 points less. Unless your facing loads of S4 missles or you want alot of attacks, but they both negate flanks, the giant is just as destructive, and most importantly, the giant is LD10 and stubborn, which means he will almost always stay around, compared to a shaggoth who has LD9 and there is NOTHING worse than having a 300 point model run down by gobbos because their ranks and outnumbering bonus beat you.
Agreed. Never said that Shaggy was a better choice. Just answered the question.
I know,i just thought it was worth mentioning to any new players. Dont want anyone to spend 40(or is it 50?) dollars on a model that they wont get alot of use out of,especially if their just starting out.
And you get four dragon ogres with extra HW for the price of a Shaggoth(I think!!
With Dragon Ogres you have the choice between twelve strenght7 attacks, or sixteen strenght 5 attacks. With the Shaggoth it's five strenght 6 attacks, or five strenght 8 attacks.
Four dragon Ogres have sixteen wounds, toughtness5, and a 5+ save. A Shaggoth has 5 wounds and toughtness 6, and a 4+ save..
I'd choose the Dragons Ogres over the Shaggoth in any battle...
Ave Dominus Nox!
