Q1 - After seeing the Doombull wrecking ball build I was considering adding a Doombull to my army. Up until now though I have used hordes exclusively so I've never used any mino's, ever. Would I need to completely change my army into a mino focused one or could I just add the Doombull with one unit of mino's for LOS protection and keep my horde army? And would then use him as my general and not take a Beastlord at all? I know that last question is very points dependent but lets say I'm not playing anything below 3K.

Q2 - I use Ungors alot, mostly as a sort of slow down chaff unit. I modeled them with spears but never add anything beyond the naked build for my army. Is there a point to ever adding anything to these wall flowers? In fact, should I even be bothering with them? Their greatest achievement thus far was lasting one combat phase (that's right, one phase) against a unit of trolls and doing a wound on a single troll. Even the skirmishers have done nothing for me other than the whole "deployment delay" thing and since I'm no strategist to begin with that's been somewhat wasted.

A1 - If you're looking to add a Doombull to your army, I would go about it in one of two ways:

    1) Include him on his own as a wrecking ball of destruction, and hand off the general's mantle to your Great Bray-Shaman. This gives you a second very hard-hitting unit, while not sacrificing your Leadership bubble altogether (Great Bray-Shaman in Bestigors with Standard of Discipline is still solid).

    2) Bring the Minobus. In this case, you're basically blowing the army up and starting over - Minotaurs do not do well if left to their own devices, hence why people put beefy Minotaur characters up front to absorb damage for them.

A2 - Not really. The only thing that I would add to Ungors is numbers, so they can hold up more than one combat phase. I personally use 40, and they do fairly well for me (they even win a fight every once in a good while!).

    @rothgar13

Thanks! I think I'll be picking up my Doombull model soon. I like the idea of running him solo.

    Beastmen True Battle Standard Bearer

What I miss is an true Battle Standard Bearer !
I know we can glue together lots of skulls etc etcetc and come up with something great , but if we all visit the website of www.ragingheroes.com and leave our thoughts ( @ how your favorit mini looks like) ,of how the BSB should should look like ,I bet they come up with something great.
Mine BSB should look like this. Big 32mm + standing on an pile of bones, captured armour, old weapons, skulls, with one foot on an mamoth skull ,holding an Big banner full skulls and other attributs in one hand and an Big axe in the other and screaming an BIG WRAGGHHHH.
They already made some nice miniatures for the other armies , but now its OUR turn , so make a visit , and who Knows , if we make them consider it, they come up with something Great.

    Wragggh,

Q1: Crown of Command on the BL

Maybe I am reading this wrong but this only confers stubbornness to the BL and not the unit... why take it?

Grrr... pg76... how stubborn works has changed in 8th. SO now the 75pt gift Crown of Horns is no longer a viable item.

A3 - Yeah, Stubborn on a character now affects the entire unit, so the Crown of Horns is being priced pretty harshly. Still, in huge games, you get double Stubborn Hordes, for whatever that's worth.

    Ambush, anybody?

I'm new to beasts and recently put a 1000pt list in the lists section (entitled "This is IT")
Advice on my newbie list was that bigger units run better (same as everybody in 8th then...) but the reason I had divided units was to take advantage of
    "Beastman Ambush".

    1. Does anybody bother with beastman ambush? Is it too unreliable?

Take a look at the list, because it's all the beasts miniatures I can muster.
I'm afraid I'm determined to hang onto the harpies at least until I see how they perform,
You never know when you're going to face a war machine right? (plus they'll just sit at the back of my display cabinet forever otherwise)

    2. How come no one likes them?

    1.
Not sure myself to be honest mate. I'm thinking of starting my own Beast army and Ambush seems fairly unreliable to me. The problem I think is that the game mechanics have changed. 6th & 7th Ed was all about cavalry and Infantry were compromised of lots of 20-25 man units. So, wth lots of units in a list having one or two units in ambush wasn't a problem. Now, in 8th, those mechanics have changed so that units are now 40-50. This means there are less units floating around the board and if one of those 30+ strong units doesn't turn up from ambush your in a bad place. This is just the way I figured it, I have no actual gaming knowledge wth beast to back this up!!

    2.
No idea. I think Harpies are cool. Although I just miss having a flying unit in my list so I'm fairly biased.
