I'm new to the beastmen and i need some help getting started. I need and army that will be good against the orks and goblins and i dont care if its a mix of chaos as well. Any help is welcomed.
Against Orcs and Goblins you say? I highly recommend Minataurs and a shaggoth then. With the poor leadership of the goblins and orcs you should have them running or stopped in their tracks from terror and fear. If they use a lot of fanatics (which all good gobbo players should) take advantage of a cheap unit of warhounds to run up and release them. Or even better yet, get an ambushing unit close to them so the fanatics get released randomly. Orc magic and war machines will be the toughest for you to deal with. Shooting is always hard on the beasts of chaos. Even with the skirmishers any army with shooting has some time to just sit and take pot shots at you and thin your herds (literally). I usually take 2 units of beast herds with 2 fewer models than all my other units to put in front as a screen and to take hits. I give them hand weapons and shields, the shields don't do much but it is better than nothing. And if you notice, when they end up fleeing from shooting (and they will) your other units will not have to take panic tests because they have a higher unit strength. Take advantage of that whenever possible. If they try and charge the two front units. Flee with them, and hope they regroup later so you can get a charge off with your other units (like minataurs) The shaggoth race up as fast as possible and make them start shaking dice for terror. They will fail some don't worry about it (I play orcs and goblins as well as BoC). Then send the shaggoth in for the kill. Oh, just as a side note. Keep him away from Boar boyz.
Hope this helps
As The Green Knight said, make use of his low Ld. Apart from monsters, use Nurgle. Units with the Mark of Nurgle with cause fear.
And against his Boar Boyz. You can try to pin them down with the Lore of Shadows. Then you charge him.
if you take a shaggoth, you may want to back him up with perhaps a small herd or something...just in case your dice rolling turns sour (as mine has from time to time) and ihs attacks miss something cronic. there is noting more annoying than having a shaggoth run away because he was outnumbered...
Welcome to Beastmen. First of, I would suggest that you write up an army list in the appropriate sub-forum. This makes it easier for us to help you figure out a final list of units to help you achieve a good unit mix. This is also a good way for you to tell us your playing style, and what kind of units you are expecting to face (O&G lists are extremely differant, they can be heavy ork hitting, goblin hordes, warmachine's and fast units etc). After a list is up, other members can help critique it, suggesting units that will suit your style more, units that will do well against certain opponents, and possible tactics for the list. Cheers,
ok thankyou, i'll make a list and stuff
