Indoctrinating the gamers of tomorrow

I had a fun experience the other night, introducing someone new to the hobby.
My fiancée is very tolerant of my hobby and I love her for it, but she's not really interested in it. Her 9 year old daughter however, is much more open to indoctrination. I have dropped the odd bit of prep work in there (showing her models, bedtime stories about the Horus Heresy... I'm practically doing psycho-indoctrination), and on saturday night I decided to take it to the next level - I showed her the basics of the game.
I let Rachel play as my Ultramarines and did a few run-through examples with me as the Ultramar Imperial Guard. Needless to say she did very well (she quite quickly picked up on how much better a bolter is than a lasgun), and she picked up the basics easily. She also got her first introduction to how frustrating assaults can be after it took 6 turns to resolve a combat between a tactical marine and two guard infantry (turns out bayonets CAN penetrate power armour).
I was surprised twofold - one, I really enjoyed it, and two - so did she. It was great to see someone new to the hobby just marvelling at what you can do and learning how best to do it, whilst marvelling at how cool the models are.
It was a real nostalgia trip for me, playing tiny games with a handful of models with nothing more than a tape measure, dice and a remote control for terrain!
Needless to say I'll be contuing her education into the finer points of 40k... next up, I might introduce her Space Marines to a Leman Russ Battle Tank (am I that mean... probably)!
It's also worth it just for the horrorified faces my fiancée keeps making
