For those who don't know, the Lost 23 is an army that has been in the planning for a couple years. It is the project to have four separate 3,000 point armies. Each one is slightly based on the four non-Carstein bloodlines, but fluffwise it is all over the place.

This blog will cover the painted models as well as a brief history of the Heart of Tears. Currently I have all the necessary models, and am painting them all up. Pics will be up in the coming days, possibly weeks.

My goal for the Heart of Tears was to go heavy on magic, much like the NEcrarchs. It was also a chance to buy models from other ranges, created a very ragtag look to the army. Let by the miserable Woe, it relies on Necromancy to iwn the day. Though none of my lists are intended to be killer, I hope it is effectie enough to win me some games.

I'll have pics up tomorrow. In the meantime, here's the background for this army's main man, Woe.

A long time ago, the vampire known as Woe was called Alexander, a whimpering little stooge in the Amethyst College in Altdorf. Unlike his fellow morbid peers, Alexander had dreams of becoming a great hero, a champion engulfed in light, saving a princess from certain doom. However, he was neither brave nor strong.

In his later years he began to delve into Necromancy, little by little, not even knowing what he ws doing. His dreams still unrequited, and age beginning to take its toll. He methodic mind, and ability his ngih photographic memory saw his power increase exponentially as he delved into forbidden texts within the crypts of the Old World. It was on one of these expeditions that he ran into a Vampire of the Necrach bloodline, a vampire lord who had been turned by none other than W'Soran.

Taken uder the vampire's wing, Alexander's strength only grew in the dark arts. He stayed loyal, sitting back as other Necromancer's dared their master's wrath, tried to usurp the vampire lord. They were cast down easily. For Alexander's committment and prowess, he was given the blood kiss and set off to do his own experiments.

It was shortly after this that he ran into the enigmatic figure, Stefan von Carstein. Naturally vapires of different bloodlines fight upon meeting. However, Stefan had other plans. He was traveling to the Chaos Wastes along with a Strigoi of all things, as well as a mysterious angelic figure. Outnumbered and with curiosity, Woe joined Stefan. They traveled across the north, slaying countless Chaos worshippers, yet losing their numbers slowly but surely. In time, they were driven out.

Alexander stayed with Stefan as well as the Strigoi Arthur. The next quest was to be the most defining for Woe, a trip to Cathay where Stefan would masquerade as an ambassador from the Empire, and ignite a war between the two nations.

They stayed at a small inn known as the Pang Long (Fat Dragon). It was there that he met his princess, Mei Hua, the daughter to an estranged noble in the eastern lands. She was young, beautiful, intelligent, and skillful in the arts of war. Her one true flaw was her love... for Stefan. Jealousy overcame Alexander and he worked to have Stefan removed. His plan came to nauht however, as he triggered not just Stefan's discovery, but all of theirs. To punish Alexander, and to use the love of Mei Hua to good use, he drowned her in front of his eyes, bringing her back not as a vampire, but a wight.

She still loved Stefan, a dagger that shattered Alexander's heart. Changing his name to Woe, he set off on Stefan's next grand scheme with a bitter taste in his mouth, powerless to stop his lord. He dreams of the day he can save his princess, and ride off into the sunset, but it will never be. His heart is eternally crying.

The second Vampire Lord of the Heart of Tears is Harvest, a crazed maniac whose attention span is shorter than his temper, which says a lot. Making quite the juxtaposition to Woe, the two's magical abilities together make them quite a threa on the battle, abl to overcome all but the strongest magic defenses.

Overall I'm all right with the paint job. A little more colorful than I was hoping, but I think it'll work. I'll wait until the entire army is painted for a final decision.

Murdim the Lost is the pinnacle of Woe's experiment's on dwarf kind. Whilst his bothers shamble on as wights, he had kept his mind, and loathing for those he serves under. If he were not so valuable to Woe, he would have been discarded long ago. Sour and bitter, this once proud dwarf is now the cruellest of souls.

This has to be one of my favorite models, top 30 at least. I knew I had to use it in the army. I'm pretty happy about it. THe Devlan Mud wash I'm using across the army doesn't show up too much, but the red detailings help make him stand out.

If ever there were a sadder fate for an Elf mage, it would be to fall to the fell powers of a master necromancer. Worst still are hte few who are brouht back by foolsih vampires willing to bring such a powerful being, and rival, into te fold. However, such immortality in a being of already so much magical aptitude is a dangerous thing and Aelas's moods an magic are volatile and uncontrollable. One woners whether i his madness some of his old memories, and hatred still linger.

I'm pretty happy with how he turned out. The blue helps him stand out, and the hair looks particularly elvish and dead at the same time. I don't know how well the blend of grey and blue worked, but then again it's not like i'm paining a whole army that way.

Of the races that Woe experimented undeath on, one rae that ended in failure were the Greenskins. Far too different, and far too bloodthirsty to fight a prolonged war of study and experiment, he had to abandon his quest to turn the Orcs to vampirism, a ugly thought all should be glad failed. However, one Orc did manage to hold onto his primal intelligence, Goregrim. Now serving as Woe's battle bearer, he is a constant joy and reminder to Woe that hope still lingers. Like all Orcs, Goregrim in battle crazed, his undeath only giving him less distaction such as eating or sleeping.

At first I thought I'd keep the shield off, and leave him with one hand. However, I think I'll go ahead and paint the shield up and glue it on at a later date. Like the other heroes, GOregrim has his own color to stand out. Another one of those models that I just loved, prompting me to go for an undead army using other models.

A crotchy old hag whose fearlessness is matched only by her alien vileness. The tutor of Stefan himself, her knowledge of Necromany runs deeper and branches out in ways that few knew possible. However, he old age has left her a hollow shell of her former power, relying on others to do her wicked deeds for some unknown agenda that may or may not exist.

I'm pretty happy with the model. No extra color to make her stand out. She'll be on a corpse cart which is still in the making. Using a krootox for it. Kroot are great models for moving between 40k and Fantasy, something I can't seem to do enough of.
