Daelrog's Warbands Section

Updated October 5th, 2009 at 04:52 by daelrog (My spelling is terrible)
I have stated a few places that I am working on 8 warbands. Really, I'm working on 16, one for each army, but I'll start with just half.

The main probem I'm having is designig the lists. Unfortunately I can't just go to each separate army forum as these lists are being built to play against each other, therefore will need to be equally competitive. Beyond that, the next problem I'm facing is making the warbands tactically flexible. One-trick ponies are hard to avoid in some armies, especially at such low a point level. Lastly, there's the unique aspect to it, making sure that armies don't just copy each other. Though I posted eight preliminary lists in the general Warhammer army section, it received no response. Oh well...

For now, here are the ideas I have for army themes as well as just some ideas floating around.

Lileath's Nocturne
High Elves, Intellectual Archetype
A shadow warriors themed force, not actually using shadow warriors. Rulewise I just can't justify them in a warband. I find them too expensive and pretty pathetic when playtesting. Sea Guard do just fine in the role at 500 points. With the online game's picks as reference for modelling, I'm think wood elf scout heads mixed into dark elfbodies like shades or even executioners for white lions count-as. Still thinking that one through...

Bloo Deff Tribe
Orcs and Goblins, Barbarian Archetype
This army is pure gobbo. Giant spider rider as the leader (one of GW's best models). Still debatig on either pump wagon or gobbo launcher for a rare. I'm still debating whether I want to make it all forest goblin themed, or to make it mix. Probably will go with the foremer if I can think of how to convert two big night or regular goblin units into forest goblins.

Blackheart Mercs
Ogre Kingdoms, Veteran Archetype
Still trying to work a list. It's just not a flexible army. Sigh. However, the models are great! I was saw a model with reddish-brown skin (can't remember where), but I like it. Mix its with some silver of as much armor and weapons I can slap on each one.

Flayed-Back Slavers
Chaos Dwarfs, Intimidator Archetye
Use ranks of flagellants as hobgoblins, representing slaves. (If you've seen the fan-made book, you'll see I'm not the only one with the idea). Chaosed up dwarfs with whips trudging behind. Some sort of slave engine as an earthshaker. Going to use the official list, instead of the much better Indy one though. Probably.

Deep Wardens
Dwarfs, Noble Archetype
Brilliant bronze dwarfs with vibrant colors fighting in the deep underground, the way it should be. Still trying to reason a way to fit a warmachine in the force though, I'll have to think about it. I mean, loud gunshots tend to make the rocks above fall on your head!

Orden Briar
Empire, Magician Archetype
Tough as-nailed, dirtied up humans. Led by a white wizard. Basically making as grim a force as I can muster with some knights, greatswords, a little of everything. I'm trying to avoid 'good' forces as it doesn't fit with the Warhammer theme too well.

The Exquisite Damned
Warriors of Chaos, Psychopath Archetype
Slaaneshi theme. Thinking about half man, half spawn force where the soliders are at different stages to damnation. My plan is to us mostly black to depict their normal selves for armor and clothes, and white/light blue to represent Slaaneshi's filthy hand. The purer look as the corruption seems like the Slaanesh way to do things.

Sunshine
Wood Elvs, Trickster Archetype
If you take the wood elves on the cover of the codex, and replace the green with more yellow. Summer force that really goes after yellow. I have nine of the feline daemonettes, and will use one to make the branchwriath, maybe more for the other dryads, depends on the final list.

Wave 2?

Maybe, the first eight warbands will take 2 years at least amongst my other projects, probably more. However, other ideas are brewing such as...

Nether Squids, Jungle Stalkers and Mousillon!

I'd like to hear ideas, comments, support, advice, etc.

    Update 10/10/2009

    First update!

-I have come to the conclusion that in order to get advice/help/etc, it'll only be possible one or two armies at a time. People tend to stear clear when eight forces are thrown at them at once. More than understandable.

    -1st List Finalized!
My first list is finalized, the one for the Ogre Kingdoms. The reason I started with Ogre Kingdoms is because they seem to be the most prone to struggle at low points games. As one of my goals (and possbily the hardest) is equally competitive (as much as reasonably possible), it serves to logic that I start by making the most handicapped army as tough as possible first as a reference for other forces.

    The list...
Maneater / heavy armor, great weapon
    90

2 bulls w/ extra hand weapons
    72

    4 ironguts
    XXX

    8 Gnoblars
    XX

    Ledbelcher
    XX

    Gorger
    XX

Pretty standard list. The bulls are more or less a substitute for ligh cavalry in other warbands (hits harder, more wounds, but slower). Special and rare were reccommended. The ironguts are at the core of the list, and playtesting will see if they can hold their own, as no doubt the four of them will make or break the game, being over twice the points as anything else.

-As I look at the list and consider how I want to model them, I'm checkig out e-bay for prices. Looks like I can save around thirty dollarsat least if I simply buy boxes from there instead of the store. I'll wait until I have a clear idea how I intend to make them though before I buy.

-Painting Advice thread. Pretty soon I'll be postig up a thread in the painting section asking for advice before I get started. I'll pretty much be asking for what brands offer the best quality paint, ask for where I can find certain specific colors, as well as what makes striking contrasts. Even if my own painting skll leave something to be desired, at least my paint choices can be spot on.

-How are the other warband fairing? High Elves I have a pretty solid grasp on, though I'll have to playtest it against the Ogres to see if it needs tweaking, though I hope not. My books are back at my folks as I finish up my last year of undergraduate college, so it'll have to wait until Thanksgiving. Orcs and Goblins are in a similar situation. Wood Elves list is getting narrowed down, pretty sure I'll have a branchwriath with netlings as the commander, still debating the use of treekin or not.
I made a list for Empire, though it might be too strong, we'll see. Warriors of Chaos is a tricky force to make a tactically flexible warband for. However, modelling wise it will be great use Space Wolf heads, and spawn bits. Chaos Dwarfs might have a list down, though I need to see if the earthshaker is too much or not. Dwarfs are in the same boat, I need to check out their warmachines.

That's it for this time around. Next update will come when there's something to be said.

    Time to Generate Excitement

SEX! (No, not that kind of excitement)

First, let me go off on a brief tangent to comment on the ads about getting ripped. Here is my free advice to everyone: 1) Work out and 2) Diet (dependent upon you age/metabolism this can be a little or a lot).

Back on subject. I have o admit I'm slightly discouraged by the lack of excitement this project as garnered. I know the blogs aren't terribly popular, but threads I've posted haven't done a lot. Perhaps once I start getting stuff painted people will believe me.

So, just to get some thoughts out there, and generate some excitement for the project, here are the detailed ideas I have going on...

    Ogre Kindgoms... (The Blackheart Mercs)

My idea for these ogres is to make eac one tell a story, making a rag tag, ruthless, somewhat comical of big oafs charging bloody murder. Here are the small themes for each ogre I'm thinking of...

Maneater - drunkard, with his great weapon in one hand, a keg in the other, drinking.

Bull 1 - "Stubs" Replace hands with weapons, possible fork and knife?

Bull 2 - "Mule" Load him up with barrells, a horse, a goat (from the giant kit). Make him the work horse of the band.

Irongut 1 - "Cheater" model some playing cards coming out of his pants.

Irongut 2 - "Prankster" laughing ogre point at his fellow's back (probably 'cheater') that says something like 'eat me' or 'me not hugry'

Irongut 3 - "Scar and chains" a little more seious than the others, an assortment of dangling chains and scars all over the body

Irongut 4 - "Pigsty" Slight green tinge, with flies drfiting around him.

Not to mension at least the Ironguts and maneater are going to be covered in spikes taken from the chaos marine vehicle sprues.

    Wood Elves (Sunshine)
Remember the female daemonettes, between the bald-headed ugly ones, and the new clothed and androgenous ones? I've got some, plus some more coming in from a won e-bay auction. I'm turning them into yellow temptresses of the wood. Change the claws out with something more human or tree like (or both).

The other brilliant idea I have for the wood elves is to atually complete the bows with wire for the bowstring, and actually arrows in hand.

    High Elves (Lileath's Nocturne)
I think the solution I've come to for modelling better looking shadow warriors is to use the scout heads from the wood elf range, and mix them with dark elf bodies. Shades for the sea guard count-as, executiones possibly for the white lions-counts. Still thinking it through.

    Orcs and Goblins (Blood Deff)
Goblin Giant SPider Rider. 'Nuff said.

Just some of the many ideas going into this project. Any ideas, feedback, suggestions are welcome!
