After reading through some of my old white dwarfs and hearing about an up-coming 1000pt tournament that will be running at our local gaming group, I decided to collect another army; actually, more precisely another 2 or 3 armies.
So, having been inspired by the good old 'tale of 4 gamers' I have decided to do a similar thing. I am going to document the processes of collecting another army - from start to finish. I hope you will enjoy it as much as I plan to.
The only problem I have come across is the fact that I am building 3 different armies at once - so, in due course, I will atempt to document all 3.
For interested parties, the armies that I am collecting this time around are Imperial Guard, Eldar (Biel Tan) and Imperial Fist Space Marines.
I'll get the first article up over the weekend sometime (or failing that on Monday).
Cheers,

Imperial Fists Space Marines – for me these guys, along with Eldar, are what got me into 40k in the first place. I still fondly remember the first White Dwarf I bought that featured a battle report between Imperial Fists and Orks.
Then there was the novel Space Marine by Ian Watson and I fell even further into the grip of these proud warriors.
Then I started playing the game and promptly collected Dark Angels because dark green was easier to paint than yellow. So, while I am a fluff-addict at heart, pragmatism wins out on the table top.
Then, with the release of the foundation paints, I was inspired all over again. Not only did I have a chance to collect the army that I always wanted, but I could also conceivably paint it too!
So, armed with several pots of Iyanden Darksun, the codex and a wad of cash I prepared myself to finally honour those stalwart warriors that inspired me to play this game.

Now, I must admit that I cheated a little bit – I already had a Dreadnought and 5 marines painted up as Imperial Fists, but the rest of the force I am gathering is going to be built from sprues. Except for a rhino – which I’m stealing from my now rather dusty and unused Dark Angels (issues with the new codex…let’s not go there).

First point of order then – a Space Marine army needs a leader. Whether it is an inspiring Chaplain, mysterious Librarian or an experienced Master the army still needs a front man.
So, I parted ways with some of my hard earned cash and acquired the Space Marine Commander box and, in a fit what I will call inspired insanity, the Emperor’s Champion. Indeed, what better leader for my Space Marines than the figure that was inspired one of the original members?

So, now I had to ‘command figures’ and needed to decide what to arm them with. Being rather simplistic in my approach, they both ended up with the trusty power weapon/bolt pistol combo. The only difference (apart from one being plastic and having a cape while the other is metal) is that the ‘Emperors Champion’ gets a jump pack instead of your standard run of the mill back pack. And might I venture the opinion that it looks pretty cool – pictures will be forth coming.

So, with the current leadership issues under control, it was time to move on…
