Septem Edo - The Seven Devourers - My long term Tyranid plans part 1.

So... might as well start up with a blog focussing on my army ideas. I see no better place to start than with a Tyranid related post!

The Septem Edo is a group of seven hive fleets seen in recent years around the same area of space over on the Eastern Fringe. Although there was actually eight different fleets, one was disregarded as a true fleet and instead considered more of a splinter. I plan to eventually represent the seven 'true' armies by different means over a large period of time and possibly a couple of codex updates. Many of the fleets within the group seem to have strange abnormalities and biodiversity, as if each was grown for a specific purpose.

This strange behaviour has not been seen before as the hive fleets previously encountered have been independant of each other and many years apart. Although sightings of each fleet seem to indicate that they are of a smaller size than either Behemoth, Kraken or Leviathan, sightings of these fleets together leads to the possibility that the collective force may be far, far larger.

Hive Fleet Tetragrammaton - The 'fake' fleet. Small fleet consisting of a high concentration of Genestealer and Lictor species once considered part of the Septem Edo. Whilst present at the time the other Septem Edo fleets were recorded, the small size, brood types and strange occurances linked to Tetragrammaton point to it not actually being one of the seven great devourers, but instead a 'Tyranid task force' with no real role other than to bring forth the true seven fleets. A major offensive conflict with the 493rd Cadian Regiment and a sizeable force of Crimson Viper Space Marines crippled and eventually destroyed all remnants of Tetragrammaton, but upon the death of the mutant Hive Tyrant considered to be the fleet's 'commander' by the attacking forces, an immensly powerful psychic scream echoed throughout the planet and far beyond. The sheer force of the screech drove many of the troops who survived to insanity and fried the brains of Brother Librarian Oberstein who, in his death throes, killed many nearby marines and begun the chapter's vow to not trust psykers. Since this occurred, sightings of an eighth fleet of similar size to the other Septem Edo splinters have been spotted, hinting that Tetragrammaton was in fact nothing but a mere frontrunner designed to scout and locate prey rather than an actual fleet. How the communication worked is as unknown as many of the other strange occurances and behavior seen within the Septem Edo fleets, although there is a possibility that strange, unaggressive psychic creatures rooted to the ground on many worlds around the affected area might be linked.

Hive Fleet Diclonius - Seen using a unique attack pattern consisting of two squid-like organisms launched directly from orbit at the start of an attack into the planet's surface which transforms the planet surface into swamplike terrain at an extremely fast rate even when compared to normal tyranid terraforming speeds. This 'two sprout' method gained them their codename. Most species mutated to unrecognizeable forms to adapt to the swamp environment allowing the fleet to gain a distinct environmental advantage against defenders.

Hive Fleet Miranda - Heavily armoured Tyranid fleet adapted to harsh ice world conditions. Considerable amounts of Carnifex genus species seen in operation alongside above normal counts of Hierodule genus species. Scattered sightings of hierophant biotitans in operation. Codename given to the fleet after a single, hopeless report closely resembling a Dominatrix genus lifeform was recieved from Miranda V around the time of the first Septem Edo sightings.

Hive Fleet Eschaton - Fleet has been reported to have adapted to flight with heavy use of Gargoyles, winged Rippers and winged Warriors. Multiple Harridan and winged Hive Tyrants have been spotted on the front lines acting as heavy support. Heavy psychic presences also reported and possible Malanthrope sightings.

    Fascinating concept seasonreaper!

Hive Fleet Tetragrammaton- The coloration is like a huge warning sign: Lookout powerfull psychic insect beasts approaching! Reminds me of dangerous tropical fish.

Hive Fleet Diclonius- Out of all the color schemes/Hive fleets I really like Hive fleet Diclonius the best. With squid like organisms how can one go wrong?

Hive Fleet Miranda- I agree with you, a harsh climate calls for tougher larger organisms. I don't think swarms of Gaunts fit to well on a ice planet.

Hive Fleet Eschaton- I understand the reasons behind all the color schemes except for Hive Fleet Eschaton. The dark grey gives them a sort of badass night look. I would assume that Eschaton would rely on the huge shadows the hive fleets cast when they descend on the planets to feed.

Do each of the Fleets work together in various warzones or is it strictly one fleet for one planet?

Thanks to you I have now developed a Tyranid craving. Keep thsoe Blogs coming!

I may indeed build on Eschaton's background, possibly to include some method of creating eternal night on the planet before the main attack commences, probably involving the spores.

The fleets are usually attacking individually but seem to have no interest in fighting each other. Currenly there are no incidents of multiple hive fleets attacking a planet but it has been reported that multiple fleets have attacked imperial ships from different directions simultaneously, as if they were working together.
