Regimental name: Cadian 454th QRF

Field of Expertise: The 454th QRF's (Quick Reaction Force) specialization was born on the fields of Armageddon, where traditionally deployed Cadian troopers lagged behind the mechanized Steel Legion, much to the dismay of Steel Legion commanders. The need arose to have a rapid insertion force that could place themselves anywhere they were needed within a short amount of time and either reinforce or hold critical objectives until heavier support could arrive. Handpicked from several Cadian regiments, their Kasrkin are tough and determined troopers, and those picked as the relief force are as well-trained and dedicated as any Imperial Guardsmen in the galaxy. The doctrines they use are Sharpshooters, Restricted Troops: Stormtroopers, Die Hards, Close Order Drill, Drop Troops, and Veterans.

Inspiration: US Army Rangers and airborne.

Composition: The rapid insertion arm of the QRF has access to equipment that Imperial Stormtroopers have access to, such as hellguns and grav chutes. They also have a higher concentration of Chimera transports than most Cadian units, since they are sometimes used as a gap plugging unit when other troops are not available. Those who lead Kasrkin squads in the QRF are generally chosen in the Catachan way, where battlefield valor and conduct determines the respect given to a man, and higher ups on the chain of command recognize this and generally promote accordingly.

The relief arm of the QRF is armed much like a standard Cadian outfit, though they do not take psykers due to the extreme nature of the combat they must endure, and they also do not take conscripts. Though they recognize the occasional need for overwhelming numbers of less experienced troops, the QRF's mission statement does not allow for a learning curve. Chances are if the relief arm is deployed, they'll be in the thick of fighting upon arrival, and will not be able to count on the support of the troops they relieve.

The 454th does not take a lot of armor, though they do have several Leman Russ tanks as well as a dedicated artillery company that is almost always attatched to provide long range support for the infantry. Most of the 454ths armor comes in Chimera and Salamander transports. Because of this, they tend to rely on other regiments for armor, and for close support they utilize a number of valkyries, which they also use for missions involving grav chutes.

Trooper Specializations:

Commanders: Commander of the 454th is Colonel Markus "Hangnail" Apolyon. A young commander by regimental standards, he nonetheless has a reputation for success and determination. After the battle of Ocerus Canyon, where the 454th was nearly pushed back into a deep ravine, one of his junior officers was quoted as saying "He'll soon have us hanging by our nails... and still expect us to fire our lasguns," thus his nickname.

A few other commanders of note include:

Kasrkin Commandant Ignatius Uriah rose through the ranks of the Kasrkin from a basic trooper to Commandant of the 454th's Kasrkin through a series of particularly tough battles and a mind for rapid deployment and hit and run tactics, particularly against the Orks on Plavontis, where a few desperate and green Plavonti regiments were badly outmatched by an Ork waaagh. Commandant Uriah, then a Sergeant, held the line against a tide of greenskins, allowing reinforcements outside of a critical promethium factory, and then inserted by grav chute with three other squads of Kasrkin, successfully eliminating the Ork Warboss Bluntnukkle, and began a campaign of sabotaging Ork vehicles and supplies, contributing great efforts to ending the Ork incursion in Imperial favor.

Majors Patroc "Bear" Berard and Janus Linder, commanders of Damocles and Lazarus company, were, through mutual bravery and combat competence, inexorably tied together. A Khornate cult was discovered within an allied regiment's ranks, and before news could be delivered, a full regiment of Imperial Guard were charging their comrades in the 454th in search of skulls. Captain Berard and his Damocles company were the first to witness the atrocities commited, and hastily dug a firing trench and voxed for support just as the first cultists reached ballistic range. Captain Linder's Lazarus company was mobilized and sent to aid Damocles, and together they succeeded in destroying enough of the cult for its members to descend into killing each other just out of range from Damocles and Lazarus' guns. The cooperation between the two commanders often leads to them being used together in joint operations.

Kasrkin/squad Sergeants: Veterans of many battles and firmly indoctrinated in the Imperial creed, the 454th's officers can afford to place complete trust in their squad leaders to fufill their objectives. Most Kasrkin sergeants use power weapons and hellpistols, while most squad leaders prefer to use the standard lasgun.

Heavy/Special Weapons Trooper: The 454th prefers the use of two specific heavy weapons, the Heavy Bolter and the mortar. The 454th's bolter crews are well trained and hardened in battle, and on the field it shows. Rarely does a bolter crew completely miss their target, even under intense enemy fire (represented by the Sharpshooter doctrine). Mortars are used by command elements and specialized mortar teams who provide medium to long range anti-infantry support to those on the line. Many a line trooper owes his life to the timely and accurate fire from these guardsmen. Lascannon teams provide accurate, powerful anti-tank fire, and though they are fewer in number than most other heavy weapons in the 454th's arsenal, they are nonetheless essential to the regiment's success.

For guardsmen who are deemed worthy through acts of bravery and marskmanship, the 454th employs a number of special weapons throughout their squads. Grenade launchers are their preferred weapon, due to the ability to be on the move and still provide reasonable firepower. However in the Kasrkin squads, plasma and meltaguns are the weapons of choice.

Droptrooper/Infiltrators: Though normally left up to the Kasrkin squads of the 454th, a certain number of troopers are trained in the use of grav chutes. These troopers have proven themselves ready to take the fight to the enemy in an aggressive fashion, and are distinguished by having a regal blue helmet with their squad markings on it.

Bakground Fluff: Forged during the wars for Armageddon, the 454th is a young, but hardened regiment. The men of the 454th share a deep bond of brotherhood with the men of Armageddon's Steel Legions, particularly the Armageddon 29th (Mechanized concept army of mine) even going so far as to have an Ork skull being crushed by a Chimera with the Armageddon 29ths colors on it emblazoned on their Regimental banner. The Armageddon 29th also shows respect to the 454th by using an emblem of a grav chute with the 454ths markings on it to give to members of the Steel Legion who distinguish themselves on the fields of battle.

Though following the same guidlines for regimental induction and reinforcement as the famed Cadian 8th, they do differ in tactics and deployment. Their uniforms follow the Cadian 8ths color scheme, with some differences, such as blue or black helmets or black armbands to mark out specialist troopers.

Due to the relative "green-ness" of the 454th, many commanders are reluctant to directly ask for assistance from the 454th, however when the need becomes dire they generally change their minds about the fighting spirit of a regiment so young. Though scoring many victories, the 454th has yet to prove itself on a large scale, since most of their engagements have been at company level. This is due to the fact that deploying an entire regiment by grav-chute is problematic, and therefore the regiment thrives on deploying a few companies expertly, and holding out as best they can. Overall, the 454th prides itself on it's toughness and dedication, and continually looks to prove themselves in the eyes of the Emperor.
