So I met up last night and we showcased our small armies... My small Black Legionish army has a chaos terminator lord and two 10 man Chaos Space Marine squads...
He is playing Eldar and he had a few squads and was working on a wraithlord (I think I really don't know Eldar that well) and a seer... He hadn't quite finished painting them up but they are turning out nice.
I had planned on bringing my camera but in my rush to get everything ready I forgot it at home.
At any rate we decided to play a little mission and learn more about playing. He said it has been awhile since he has played and he isn't that familiar with the 5th ed rules and I really haven't played at all aside from a couple mega battles and a couple solo games from 3rd edition...
We played a hold mission where there were 3 objectives. We were fighting at night and the placement was such that one objective was on either of our sides with the 3rd being in the middle of the board.
He went first and right off the bat insta killed my Terminator Lord. He moved a unit closer to the middle objective.
My first turn I moved and fired at his advancing squad taking out 8 of them. My plasma gunner failed gets hot, failed his saving throw and melting away into a plasma slag! My second unit fired at the warlock (I think that is what it was) killing him.
2nd turn he moved them in a retreating position though he passed leadership. He rolled a 1 and couldn't do anything with his wraithlord that turn. I moved and took the middle objective.
3rd turn he was able to move the wraithlord again and moved towards the middle objective. The remaining 3 figures in his squad moved through some collumns to try and flank my unit in the middle of the board. I moved off the middle objective to try and get maximum fire at it... I found that I have very few firepower options that are effective against it. Needless to say I did nothing to it.
4th turn he fired and killed 2 of my marines and then charged in for melee with both the wraithlord and the remaining 3 from his other unit. I managed to kill the last 3 from the squad but was ineffective against the wraithlord. He dominated my squd reducing it to the aspiring champion and the melta gun chaos space marine... The panicked and fled. Luckily they were able to outrun the wraithlord and proceeded to run towards the table edge...
5th turn found his wraithlord moving towards my other squad in the first objective and my aspiring champion and melta gun csm running closer to the table edge. I fired at the wraithlord and with luck managed to score 1 wound on it.
the 6th turn a 2 was rolled and the mission ended at a draw.
It was a lot of fun though we were very slow as we fumbled with the rules. I figure with a few more games we will be more used to the rules and the game will progress a lot smoother.
Lesson learned by me: I need things that can take out more powerful things... Seems kind of obvious though doesn't it! LOL Seriously though It was a fun game. Hopefully my scattered pattern of building and painting my army will be effective on the table and not some disorganized mess... I think after last night though that I will go ahead and put together the defiler.
Cheers,
-Mike
