I only played against one, a loud, slightly obnoxious guy who still managed to impress me with the kindness and sensitivity beneath the bluster. I lost, got massacred in fact. The problem was the scenario was a "king of the hill" sort of setup, where the "king" got a points bonus and a +1 to combat resolution in addition to the +1 for high ground. Unfortunately he started on the hill, forcing me on the offensive... My archers were completely out of range of anything useful (We had started set up before the rules were explained, and I had put them on a hill not realizing the the diagonal playing field would put them very far away from the greenskins indeed.) My phoenix guard, along with the archmage they were escorting, got jumped on by a giant and completely destroyed. I got stopped completely in my advance by 9 fanatics (in retrospect, I should have charged through them. Oh well.) The only upside was my sword masters on the far flank made mincemeat of anything they came across.



Before they fought me, this army managed a draw against the dwarves by the skin of their teeth. This pump wagon braved the fury of the dwarves, but the warriors of Hoeth turned it into kindling. You may notice that the goblins were painted pink. This may or may not have been the reason I have many more pictures of the orcs and goblins army I didn't play against.



As you can see, the other army had a far more tradition black and white theme. It was fully painted and looked pretty darn cool.



The giants were painted with great skill. Contrasted with the giants from the other army's giant, they serve as an excellent example of the importance of washes, undercoats, and overcoats.



I wish I could bring this many bolt throwers. I don't even own this many bolt throwers.

This time I was able to play, which was nice. I lost all three games, though, so I am awarded no points and fail at life. The first I was firmly tabled by a Brettonian army with a billion knights and half as many Pegasus knights. I was later pulled aside and given condolences, as apparently the person I faced was known to be a horrible cheater. While I wouldn't say he cheated, I would say that he was by far the least fun of the people I played with.



Very tastefully painted, though.

The second game used a high-magic scenario from the 8th edition rules, with the focus being some magical ruins or some such. I was paired against an empire player and we immediately hit it off. Probably because we were both actually the same age and he wasn't 5 to 10 years my elder. We spent most of the game talking, which is a pity, because I would have won if it had played out all the way (Almost had his steamtank and he would have lost his last wizard.) As it is, we scored a draw, and bracket wise he was declared the winner by 100 points.



The fighting got pretty rough around the objective. Yes, his tank did route my spearmen. I should mention his units, which were not technically GW models but still looked really nice. In some ways I preffered the look of his spearmen to the actual empire spears.



My sword masters with the banner of Ellyrion pretty much sat most of the game out, trying not to get shot by this line of handgunners. If I'd remembered to move them out when the gunners were being chased around the table by my BSB they would have turned the tide of the battle around the ruin, but sometimes, you just forget about the guys hiding in the trees.

Yes, the Skaven player did lose this round. How did you guess? He was a good sport about it though (as far as laughing maniacally whenever your units die is sporting.)

My friend's Saurus unit got eaten by these zombies. So did two units of skinks. He was quite upset, but the zombies seemed content.
