Well this is my first shot at a 2000pt army list.
Lord - 237pts
Grail Vow, shield, Barded Warhorse, Virtue of the Joust, Armour of Agilulf, The Lance of Artois
lvl 2, horse, 2x Dispel Scroll
Paladin BSB- 104pts
barded warhorse, Banner of Defense
9 KE - 201pts
6 KoTR - 160pts
8 KoTR - 216pts (Joined by Damsel)
16 M@A - 80pts
10 PBM - 70pts
6 QK - 195pts
5 MY - 75pts
3 PK - 165pts
5 GK - 220pts (Joined by Lord)
Trebuchet - 90pts
TOTAL - 1978pts
I got some spare points what should I do with them? Add more PBM or give my BSB a Virute?
doesnt look like a bad list, and it is fairly balanced. The only thing i would suggest is increasing the size of some of the units. the peasent units are small, and you could use some more pegasus knights. I find 3 isnt enough. otherwise a good list.
more peasants and M@A. Mens at arms are awesome in large block. With their 4+ AS they are little mini tanks. Also I hate it in a bret army when the knights outnumber the peasants. Just doesn't seem right or representative for the army. Little min-maxed.
Take two big blocks of M@A (25 - 30) you will not regret it. They will keep anything in combat for a long time so the lances can take the flanks.
I think taking more peasents just for the sake of taking peasents isn't a good idea. Bretonianns are known for their knights. But the peasents aren't as bad as you would think. I've had a unit of 16 M@A with command hold up a unit of 16 spear elves for 2 turns before i flanked the high elves. Thats a lot of points wasted on the elves part, but i mostly use skirmishing PB. They are great at holding flanks, and some lucky shots can soften up a battle line nicely. I play with units of 16 PB out of nessicity (i dont have anymore!!) but i would use more if i had them. So definetely go with bigger units of PB, 10's not going to do anything.
I agree that Brettonians are known for their knights but you still need peasants. Don't tell me that there are more noble sons in Brettonia then that there are subjects. It just doesn't make sence.
Also just because they are known for it doesn't mean your whole army has to consist of them. I play High Elves and they are known for their magic. However if I take 3 level 2 mages and a level 4 to a 2000 point game loaded with magic items and a banner of sorcery so I have between 14 and 17 power dice the I can here the cheese cries very fast. The argument that that's what they are know for doesn't give you an excuse to min-max. Now I know that brettonian have a lot of core knight troops and it's hard not to overload on knights because they don't have that much else but look at your peasants.
Your M@A are 5 point each!!!!!!! And you can give them spears for free. My High Elf spearmen are 11 points each. Granted they fight in 3 ranks, and have a higher WS and 1" more movement. So they should be more expensive. But your armor save and toughness are the same and you spend less then half per model. A 20 M@A unit is only 100 points.
Then your bowmen. 6 points per model and they have longbows!!!!!! High Elves 12 points per model. So double value and for that I get:
- 1" extra movement (not that usefull since they need to stand still and shoot
- LD is much higher too. Don't think that's too big for you since they don't get paniced that easily.
- I have 1 higher BS which is pretty good but I'd rather have twice as many shots for the same points.
Then on top of that you get free defensive stakes.
Or for 1 point per model make them skirmishers (360 vision, can bunch em up and they can still all shoot, and -1 to hit by shooting).
And you can give them flaming attacks for .5 points per model.
Right now you have 1500 point of knights/knight type characters. I would drop about 400 points and take between 65 and 80 peasants. Say you drop your 5 GK and the 6 KotR unit. Then drop 1 knight out of the other KotR and replace him with your lord.
That will save you 404 points and you only lose 12 knights. Then you still have 3 lances of knights left and a unit of pegasus knights.
Then I would use the 404 points to add
28 M@A with spears and full command - 167 pts
28 M@A with spears and full command - 167 pts
10 peasant bowmen (skirmishers) - 70 pts
Total 404 points and you will have 66 models.
Also your battle line will look much more imposing and like a real battle line. And with 20 bowmen you might actually be able to panic something. Keep in mind that shooting is not only for softening troops but it's far more effective if it can cause some panic checks.
Could even trade the 16 M@A for another unit of bowmen.
