a couple of friends of mine just started playing warhammer, and we'll be playing 500 pts friendly games, under normal rules, not warband. i'm still doubting whether to take my mounted yeoman or bowmen. one of them plays dwarfs and his list looks roughly like this:
1 bolt thrower
this is the list with the bowmen:
banner of châlons
5 knights of the realm
5 knight errants
and this is the one with the yeoman:
5 mounted yeoman
the advantage of the yeoman is obvious; they can screen my knights, while the bowmen provide more shooting. although i think most will bounce off as usual <_< , but the banner of châlons helps against the thunderers. he's still painting his army, so i haven't gotten a chance to test it yet. that's why i'm asking here.
if there are any other recommandations, i'd also like to hear them (e.g. drop the peasants alltogether and get more knights)
I like your second list better.
SImply because the yeomen can go after the boltthrower and then harrass the other units. Its hard for bretts at these points when you have to take 2 characters.
The banner of chalons is a good investment.

The "A Smart Player Will..." theory is a complete paradox. If we make an assumption that everything we do is outsmarted, then theoretically we can never win.
