Title says it all. How have you (or are you) putting the paint on your GK? I am working on one right now of my own and am not up to the free hand that the pics in the army book are showing. What have you all done with your own?
I don't have the model for him actually. Its a great model, but I don't plan on using him until 3000 points or higher. I find other Lords to be alot more useful than he is. As for painting him, I'll probably attempt to do it similar to what is in the book. I'm not a great painter...but i do have a multiple Golden Daemon winner who works at my local GW store, so I'll get him to help me out with tips for how to approach it.
I think an overall darker green for him would look very cool. Either a darker or more ethereal look. I'm not a huge fan of the Minty Green Knight a la GW.
Might be cool to paint the armor as a lacquered white instead of the standard metal. Would make him stand out quite a bit more as your centerpiece.
One of my local game retailers had a great example in their showcase of a Green Knight painted in layered greens to emphasise the "ethereal" look similar to the appearance of the undead host in LoTR III: The Return of the King. I had assumed it was a single display model from someone's Bretonnian-themed Vampire Counts army until I read the Green Knight entry in the Bretonnian Army Book. As far as painting goes, the effect is much easier to achieve than the freehand embroidered appearance, and yet it looks pretty striking.
Most of my green knight model is black with just some highlights in greys and some boltgun trim on a few metallic areas, then coated in black ink. Most of the upper surfaces which are open to the sword though are dry brushed with increasing brightness’s of green in order to make the sword, (which is painted almost white) look like it’s glowing down onto him. Only his and the horses eyes are red along with the eyes on the shield.
Still waiting for mine... bought it from a friend but I still haven't recieved it. Planning to make mine a bit more darker with a bit different fluff.
