Hey all, just a quick question about a bret army idea...I want to make mostly an all cavalry army, no peasants, and want 2 damsels, but since I hate the Damsels on a horse models, I want them to be dismounted, but that would be odd having a whole army mounted and 2 damsels running around on foot...and I like trebs so...
Bottom line is that I want lots of knights, and 2 trebs standing the rest of the army and firing big chunks of rocks at my enemy, and the 2 damsels joining the trebs.
So will it be a good idea to do this? It would be kinda odd but will it be effective?
Thanks for your time.
It depends on who you face, but most armies have warmachine hunters. You don't really have any shooting either, so instead of just taking out a trebuchet, these guys will get one of your magic defense characters as well. In one turn they can cripple your shooting and magic and make theirs that much more dangerous.
In other words, you can do it, but I don't think it's a good idea.
If they don't have a lot of shooting you could hid a damsel deep in a forest so she can't be seen. I don't see why you don't stick her in your units, she just adds magic resistance and extra ranks to your lance formation.
It really is a waste not sticking a damsel into a unit of knights. The only reasons I would run a damsel on foot really would be either in an all peasant army, or if I wanted her to have Line of Sight for Lore of Heavens and that would only be if your taking a Prophetess.
Leaving the Damsels with the Trebs is a bad idea. Any warmachine hunters are just going to kill her first, then go on decimating your warmacine crew (don't expect the crew to kill anything). To be quite honest, in all cav armies, I'm not a huge fan of the Trebuchet, you'll be leaving it without support and just asking enemy fliers/tunnellers to come and kill it.
Thanks for the quick reply. But if I still decided to use the 2 trebs and damsels as I said earlier, what do you think would be a good way of protecting them without using peasants? On the other hand, I quite like the bowman bretonnians have would consider using them. Would you say that skirmishing bowman could help out my trebs?
About the damsels not being with knights...well, as I said, I dont really like the mounted models
Cheers for the help, and I would like some more
Well some men at arms or bowmen are cheap ways to support your trebs. Peasants are amazing units that most Bretonnian players I've found (sadly I might add) don't see the full value of. For their points, our peasnats are some of the best units in the game, not to meantion the Peasants Vow/Knights Vow combo is quite good.
As for the Damsel, it really depends on what your going for. In my magic heavy list (Prophetess and 2 Damsels) I run the Prophetess with a unit of 20 Bowmen skirmishers and the 2 Damsels in units of Knights. I will agree that the mounted Damsel model is ugly as hell in general and especially compared to the Damsel on foot. However, if your trying to play competitvely, the benefits of MR 1 on a unit off knights against armies with magic missles is too good to pass up. If your making your army more for fun and looks, then yea your fine going with the Damsels on foot with the Trebs.
I'd like some suggestions from you guys regarding what unit to throw her in, as long as it's not men at arms. Thank you.
As for the list being competitive or fun...well, I'm actually trying to do both. I want it to be quite fun and interesting, while not being a walk in the park for my opponent either.
Well, you could always either convert the mounted Damsel model or try looking for a subsititute model. Some of the Damsel models in the Classic Bretonnia Range as that model is infinately superior to the current one in my opinion.
If that doesn't work for you, I would suggest sticking one in a big unit of bowmen.
As for Men-at-Arms, personally I swear by them. I run 2 units of 20 with Musicians and Standards in my 2000 point list. I use them as flank guards for my knights and they have worked wonders for me in the roll. They can take infantry head on and if my knights get flanked, my M@A will nail the flankers in their flank . 3 rank, a banner, the flank charge bonus (as well as killing my opponents ranks) and almost a guarenteed outnumber gives me a static combat res of 6 before i even attack . Quite nasty if I do say so myself for a dirt cheap unit.
Anyway, if I do decide to stick with the foot damsel, would you reckon that her join a unit of bowman would be effective? Or just leave her with the trebs and have skirmishing archers protect her? If not than I'm definitely going with the old mounted damsel, she's a great model. Any chance she's in the collectors guide to make the order easier?
Thanks again for the help man.
Yes, she should be in the massive bitz book @ GW Stores. So you can definatly bitz her through your local store.
As for the damsel on foot, I'd go with the Bowmen over the Treb just because your mobile and can move away from more dangerious units.
