So what do you think the best lord/hero list would be for a general tournament style 2000 pt army list?
Also which is better the Brt. lord or prophetess?
I'm not quite sure what you mean by:Like general configuration? Or numbers?best lord/hero list
I guess generally you'll find
1-2 Other heros:
Either one Damsel or another Paladin + Damsel.
Rarely will you find two Damsels in a Tournament army, mostly because you wont be doing any magic anyway, so there is no point for another caddy.
As for detailed list with the bells and whistles, it really depends on playing style and what you are fighting. Though, *THIS* (Favorite Virtues) is a good place to start virtue-wise. Plus, it has some nice combos.
Lord wise, 9/10 you will get the Duke/General character for your answer. Simply because magic is not what we do. However, if you do fancy yourself some Prophetess action, mosey on over to *mmnah* ( Bretonnia - Prophetess List). Spector made it, so it's probably legit, and, failing that, a good place to start.
For your intrepid Duke, refer to that virtue thread for some nice combinations, or look at some local armylists.
Edit: Brt.? That's a nice abbreviation you have there. I like it.

When choosing lord level characters i always feel that its best to consider how such a character will benefit the army rather than how directly powerful he/she is.
For example, if your list is very knight heavy and therefore depends on charges a lot the bretonian lord is probably a significantly better choice giving one of your units a huge hitting power to smash the enemy aside.
On the other hand if you have a more peasant anchored list a prophetess might be more worthwhile lending support to the shabby peasantry.
After that it’s all a matter of preference.
I will point out however that at 2000 points a lord isn't always ideal. you might very well be better served with 2 paladins and a Damsel much more worth while letting you spend more points on knights and other such more critical units.
spambot kill tally: 79
[16:19] <@Alzer> Arky's right though
[16:20] <@Kaiser-> I know he is.
[16:20] <@Kaiser-> He usually is.
[16:20] <@Kaiser-> Sometimes it's intentional.
[00:01] <+zubus> i love you, ya skirt wearin nothern monkey! ^_^
Id say the best Character combo for a general list would be a Lord, 2 paladins and 2 (lv1) Damsels.
The damsels provide a good Mag Def, and can add magic Res to key knight units, with scrolls and the possible +1Ddice magic item.
One Paladin, or maybe even your lord, on a Pegasus, and then the second paladin possibly on foot if you take pesants. Wargear is purely down to personal preferance though.
If you are just tooling up your characters to kill well, you might as well take a paladin over a lord. Its only one or two less attacks and a lot cheaper. If you have a specific combo in mind that only a lord can take, and a hero can't afford (50+ point items) that is when to go for the lord. That my opinion anyway.
For a 2k list I'd probably go lord, paladin, BSB, damsel.
My 2k list I run which is knight heavy contains:
Bretonnian Lord - Character killer, roughly 250 points
Paladin BSB - w/ Virtue of Knightly Temper, rank and file killer, rouhgly 130 points
2x Damsels of the Lady - both lvl 1, both mounted, both w/ 1 or 2 scrolls, roughly 220-270ish points
Total of 4 characters and roughly 600-650 points.
It's more about what army you will be playing. You can go magic heavy with a prophetes and damsels, brets aren't the best army for magic but they are not that bad at it...
But I prefer to go with a lord, paladin, bsb paladin, damsel lvl 1 (scrollcaddy and magic resistence)
A lord can be a real kick ass character killer if you tool him up for the job, but like said before a paladin can do just as good if you plan his role.
What Do You Mean By If You Play His Role?
"Advance, or it will not be daemonic blood that stains my hammer this day."
Inquisitor Lord Hephaestos Grudd, addressing Colonel Molain of the 223rd Gudrunite Rifles.
Plan his role. It means you have a set task in mind for him in the battle (be it supporting a cav unit, character killing, mage hunting etc.) and that is how you equip him. If you try to make him a jack of all trades, he will not be overly strong at any one thing and a lord may be better due to getting more equipment.
Yes that is exactly what I meant by "plan his role".
For example if you want a rank&file killer you should take a lord/paladin with virtue of knightly temper but if you want a character killer you should get him virtue with rerolls in a challenge (confidence??).
So there is not really a best setup for heroes, its more about how you would like to field and use them. But if you really dont know this is always a good one: lord, paladin, bsb, damsel(caddy).
