after some advice,
In 1500/2000pt games, if your going to take a few Mounted Yeoman for the purposes of flank attacks, fast cav and distracting those irratating bolt throwers.........how many would you recommend? I was thinking one or two small units of 5?
note - I usually use a pretty all-round army, mix of peasants and knights and in the past few games against ORcs & Gobs have been systematically taken apart by bolt throwers and fanatics!!
sound right to me. They can also shoot down fanatics and hit goblin shamans pretty hard or chase down spider riders or wolf riders.
One to two units of 5 to 6, with musicians (and also banners, as iirc banners captured by the enemy from units with Pesants duty dont give away Victory Points) sounds about right.
Keep them as cheap as possible.
They are so handy for Baiting and Fleeing and setting up charges for your "main" cavalry.

The "A Smart Player Will..." theory is a complete paradox. If we make an assumption that everything we do is outsmarted, then theoretically we can never win.
If you want to be really really really really technical then 7 is the magic number. Almost always bigger than a any units size on the front or side, and still gets that fraction of needing 2 for a panic from shooting, also its just enough that if they score the minimum kills to cause panic you get a chance to rally. I like taking peasant banners whenever I can because often they are cheaper, I would however reconsider of fast cavalry because fleeing drops the banner. Musicians are almost a must though.

gonna give it a try this weekend. Got a 2Kgame against the Orcs&Gobs again so will see what changes with the two small units of 5 i've added to my army.
Fingers crossed my treb actually hits something this game too!!!! (malf-ed in the first round last time)
Might post my list up later for some more tips from anyone.
I find one group of 5 is usually enough with a musician. 6 would be the largest size you would ever use.
well that battle did go well......
2000pts against Orcs&Gobs, the mounted yeoman worked brilliantly, dice rolling really let me down when one of my trebs fell to bits, my questing knights failed 2 terror tests and promptly ran off closely followed by some archers.....all in the first round!!! By the 3rd round it was all looking a bit grim!!
Anyway, will defiantely be using them next time i play, but maybe just the one unit of 5 or 6.
