So I'm starting up Bretonnians to play in WFB. I've never played Brets, which goes well with the fact that I've never played WFB. I'm playing a very friendly game against another new player here in a few days, who plays Wood Elves, and I believe we're playing 1500 points. How should I go about equipping my general for this? I plan on having (roughly) some Knights Errant, Knights of the Realm, Grail Knights 35 Men at Arms, Bowmen, Perhaps a Trebuchet. I'll also have a BsB in there, and a Damsel. Also, should I get another Damsel or Paladin for the fourth Bret hero slot? Any help is appreciated, I'm pretty clueless.

i will serve a a tra...traitor to my brethren wood elves. ill try and fill you in on what you should take hero wise. Wood elves are fast, if your oponent is smart, key word being if, they will outmanuever you, you are most likely taking knights and a few peasants,
heres are WE weaknesses
they are weak, almost all T3
extremely weak against shooting
extremely weak against magic ( however they do have a little higher than normal amount of dispel dice)
If you manage to get attacks against them, you will hurt them badly
-keep you knight FAR AWAY from treemen, i really cant think of a way to kill him, without losing tons of knights,
-against forest spirits, use grail knight ( their magic attacks take away their 5+ ward)
-against basic elves, use bowmen, your longbows have the same range, so they arent gonna be out of range. a good number of shoots from yoemen will kill of a glade gaurd unit, or make it unaffective. eternal gaurd can be killed like this
wardancers get raped by bowmen, target these ones first.
-be extremely careful, do not let treekin, treemen, or wardancers charge you, even your best knight unit is likely to get torn to shreds. at all times, try to charge wardancers, they will be butchered by a charging knight unit in lance formation. (the only way they will get to attack first is with 1 S3 attack each using ASF, which wont hurt your knights.
as for hero choices,i would recomend a second damsel, with some magic item that gives more power dice. The main units your gonna worry about are wardancers, wild riders, and treekin, although WD and WR have MR1, if you cast enough spells, some will get through, and a good applied Magic missle (the 2D6 S3 hits spell in beasts is perfect) will really hurt a WE unit.
but more importantly, here are some simple tips, dont put your cavalry in the forest ( duh) it will slow them down, and the WEs can use spells that do damage ( at S5) to units in forests,so stay out of them.
Dont let yourself be flanked, ever, by WE
Dont ger charged, charge them A1
If your are going to charge, Make sure the ennemy is immune to psychology ( so it therefore cannot flee from a charge) or that you are close enough that they wont escape A2
Charge forest spirits and Wardancers, they cant flee, and your cav can rack u p some damage.

Try Pegasus riders.
I have only played one game against Brets, and neither of us were very experienced. However, there are no wood elf combat units that can match the mobility of Pegasus riders. Nearly all of the wood elf's combat power comes from being able to wipe out the enemy before they strike. If you get the charge, you are hitting T3 armorless units that come at around 15 points a pop.
Trust me, they work.
Well, thank you for the advice. I did get to play this game, my first, and lost a minor victory (to AtlantianWarrior). Probably the weakest part of my play is making sure that I get the charge, versus getting charged, and thats something I'm going to have to work on.
if ur fighting wood elves, get the phantom banner and give his archers in the woods a narsty surprise lol. also skirmishing archers with fire arrows to kill trees.(two great ideas for te price of one lol)
