I'm about to play a big 3000 or so point game against a lizardmen player who will definitely include a lot of magic and will DEFINITELY include Kroak. I'm just wondering if anyone had any good ideas for removing such a distinguished and powerful spell-caster when using an army that to be honest could do with a little more magic.
Any help would be nice and I'm pretty much just hoping he rolls a double one on the miscast table and his retched bones implode
Well first off, you are aware that Lord Kroak like all 1st and 2nd generation Slann, cannot miscast. The only way he is affected by a miscast is if he is casting through a Skink Priest, and all that does is make it so he cannot cast through that priest again.
The best way to deal with any Slann list imo, is to do what we do best. Hit them hard, hit them fast, hit them often. CHARGE! .
On the upside to a Kroak list, your opponent will have more than 35% of his points invested in one model. This will limit his ability to meet you in close combat somewhat. I would suggest a good bit of Pegasus Knights for their ability to maneuver quickly around his lacking troops and hit them (and Kroak) hard. I wish I had specific Lizardmen experience, but I don't, so I simply wish you the best of luck.
Somehow I think this is going to be bloody however it turns out. I'm definitely going to need to check out the Lizardmen army book to work everything out, but I'm going to have to agree with both of you. My best option is going to be to weigh down on the slimy scum with rank upon rank of lance and steel.
Ok.... 12 Realm Knights with FC and warbanner. BSB with Banner of the Lady and virtue of duty. Damsel on horse... maybe with a Mag resist item for MR better than 1, cant remember if Brets have one. Paladin with BS of Carcasonne, GG helm and whatever virtue takes your fancy.
Run that lot as a single unit straight into the Slanns Temple Guard if hes in there. you have Outnum, 3 ranks, Banner, BSB, Warbanner. Thats +7 Cres before a lance has even landed. If that doesnt clear him i dont know what will...
Just an afterthought, i bet TG with a Slann or Unbreakable or Stubborn or something stupid arent they...
If it's 3000 points I would think he would get 2 Slann (insane I know but if hes crazy enough to get kroak...).
My advise is to get lots of Damsels and put them in important units. Also get the chalice of malfleur and mabye a Staff of Sorcery and lots of dispel scrolls. The Lizardmen player will mostly likely go for the 'Machine Gun' Slann whereby he uses Kroaks mamoth 8 spells (Drain magic which is useless, Ruination of Cities, which is INSANE and 6 other spells from any of the 8 standard lores of magic of which most will be magic missiles) as well as 6 from a 2nd generation slann (Drain magic against and 5 more magic missiles) to overwelm your dispel dice and scrolls.
Best stategy is to just ignore the hail of magic (hopefully blocking the most potent of them with scrolls [Block Ruination of Cities!!!], dice and magic resistance) and kill all his units (he will only have 1300 points of actual troops!).
