I'm thinking of getting mounted yeomen to give me some flexibility in the movement phase other than just charging, but one thing I want to know is if they are really worth it because $50 for five is really bugging me.
Game play wise, they are definately worth it. I have 12.
If you find it expensive, you can always convert using pistoller or reavers.

I think they're worth it. I always take fast cav if an army has them, and they complement the knights very well as they're so much more mobile. Plus, they're good for war machines, march blocking, enemy skirmishers, protecting your flanks. And very cheap compared to your main units.
Worth it in gaming terms for the pts you pay, yes. For the cost... not so much. Try and find some models which would make good conversions (Empire pistoleers as already suggested for example) Though if there's nothing else you like, take the plunge. A unit of Fast Cav or two is always handy to have on the table.
Agreed, yeomen are a great asset to a Brettonian force and coversion is the key.
Men at arms bodies on pistolier legs should work for the most part.

The "A Smart Player Will..." theory is a complete paradox. If we make an assumption that everything we do is outsmarted, then theoretically we can never win.
